I still believe that America didn't vote FOR Trump, but AGAINST Clinton. What I don't understand though is how people can be so naive that they vote against their own interest. Just look at the map of states which are most dependent on federal aid or those with the most food stamp recipients. The vast majority are red states. They shot themselves in the foot big time, it seems.

First of all, the red states have been dependent on federal aid for a very long time already. Didn't start with Obama, as the GOP wants you to believe. Second, the promised manufacturing jobs won't come back in large numbers. Americans are addicted to cheap stuff for various reasons; mostly because their income is so low that they can't afford anything better. Should you be in the US one day, just visit a Walmart and see for yourself. If you bring back manufacturing to the USA (or introduce 35% import tariffs as Trump has announced) you will automatically increase the price of goods significantly. There's no way to manufacture at the same cost as in China for example, and corporations will certainly not increase wages or lower their profit margin just because they love their workers so much. In the end, the consumer will pay because companies will pass their costs on to the buyer. And who will be hit hardest? That's right, the poor folks who voted for Trump and his billionaire cronies.

We haven't even touched the topic of automation here. Another reason why the old-style, blue collar manufacturing job will never come back.

Western States in particular depend heavily on military production for the armaments industry! This means hefty gov't contracts.
