It's simple. My definition of "parasite" is: an entity that takes more than it gives back.

By that definition, my kids were parasites but for the fact that (1) I wanted to have them, (2) I knew they would cost a lot, and, most importantly, (3) I loved them more than my own life. And (4) I didn't expect anything back.

The EU and the rest fit my definition above to a tee. If in doubt, check foreign trade deficits and the so-called "mutual" defense treaties - a good comedy material.

Trade is never a zero sum game on a country by country basis. Some will sell more to you than they buy, while others will purchase more from you than they sell. If you have a trade deficit with a highly industrialized nation or trading bloc, then it's simply your own fault because too many of your products and services are not competitive.
