BTW: Just returned from a 3-week busuness trip to Spain. Was somewhat surprised by some things that happen there...

Imagine that you lock your house in US and go away for a month long vacation. After return you find that locks is replaced and family of latinos with a pregnant wife and a baby inside. You call police, and officers after brief questioning tell you that you cannot use force to free your home, as you can be arrested for violation of the rights of a minor. You also cannot cut water and electricity supplies, under threat of the same penalty. And (yes!) you have to pay for all utilities as before.

Funny that you mentioned it. A while back, I went to have a chat with the local police on the very same subject except hypothetically. They told me the same thing: you can't remove them by force and neither can they as, to them, it's a civil dispute. The difference was that I, as the legal owner, can enter the property and break every window if I so choose and leave. In winter, living in a place like this would not be much fun. I could ask the utilities to shut off gas and electricity, too. Or live in there right with the squatters and play music as loud as it is legal 24/7. Walk around naked and swear in their native language all day long. Just can't physically touch them. That would be a case of assault.

BTW, that could happen if you just go shopping for a couple of hours.
