Commentators here are quite abit baffled.....IMHO that turnout was a clear judgement of the Brits in favour of their monarchy....not against it. A weak turnout, more anti-protestors, more "dancing in the streets" would also had been a judgement, but the contrary came true!

It's quite common when such a large number of people are gathered. People queued for 25 hours, I don't think the world has ever seen anything like it. One very elderly man said that she gave 70 years to the people of Britain and the least he could do was give a few hours. There was a touch of the wartime spirit about the whole affair.

I've never been very keen on Charles, but It took extraordinary courage and resilience to go through the last ten days with the grace that he has shown. Grieving like that and sharing every intimate moment with billions of people watching him - and at his age. The British people will have new respect for him and genuine affection too. I think he will be a popular monarch in his own right.
