I see more hatred coming the other way.....
Maybe in this forum, but not in the general public. Reality is Americans and Brits have a special relationship...very little hatred. You guys might be a little jealous of us, and we are completely clueless to the whole monarchy thing but we sure as hell love its spectacle.
Americans, like most Canadians,Aussies and Kiwis are British people who have travelled to foreign,
Certainly the American colonial lands were heavily populated by Brits, but people from Spain, Netherlands (before it was New York City--it was New Amsterdam), and France mingled about with the Brits and natives, as they made there way to new world before the Brits.
I'd argue that American colonial history wasn't
entirely British history. The crown spent much of its time neglecting the American colonies, the American colonies enjoyed a lot of autonomy. The increasing infringement of the crown on colonial autonomy is what pissed of the colonists to the point of revolting and declaring independence. Yet, even though there was this staunch sense of autonomy many colonists still held pride in being British citizens. One of the major reasons the newly formed United States was able to reconcile with its former British patrons quickly after two wars.
It has always been a very interesting and close relationship.
