USA News and Poland - part 14

Despite most of the genius and effort not being theirs.

Blah, blah, blah, without Poland's contributions, the world could be oblivious to the existence of Enigma, even today. A most important discovery, as far as the military was concerned. Hundreds of thousands of lives were saved, possibly millions, and the defeat of the German war machine would be delayed for years, so breaking the Enigma code was the most critical breakthrough, maybe except for the atomic bomb, but that came later in the Pacific War

Dr Turing solve the new method of setting g the dials, he also solved the whole new system the Krauts introduced. And the Wytie and Jap ones too.

Dr Turing could not set his bowel movement cycles without the discovery of Enigma existence, that was the job for Polish intelligence services. End of the story

the discovery of Enigma existence, that was the job for Polish intelligence services

Well, all major countries had cryptography and the hero of this is Dr Turing.

BTW, he also invented computers.

End of

story

An interesting article about that silly (and potentially very dodgy) essay the Yanks made.

Who would trust them now?

BTW, he also invented computers.

Bullshlt.

You could not sit down and enter 2-3 to get -1 using his imaginary "computer". That "computer" was in his head, not on his desk.

Quoting:

While Alan Turing is considered a foundational figure in computer science and AI, he didn't invent the computer in the sense of building the first physical machine, but rather he laid the theoretical groundwork for modern computing with his work on the "Turing Machine" and other key concepts.

The first device they deserved the name "computer' was the one that allowed to enter 2 minus 3 and displayed -1.

All else before it was no better than what chimps could do 1 million years earlier: one banana plus one banana divided by two little chimps is one banana per little chimp.

Why does super-stupid so often come with black skin and a vagina...

If that place - 20 acres of ocean-front - was worth 17 million, Trump would get 1000 offers for twice that much the next day.
Black vagina - a disater. See Kamala...

So Trump's goal with 25% tariffs is to bring auto production to the US. Ok, let's assume Germans build new Volkswagen factories in two or three years (hopefully Trump is not gone by then). Then they have to hire US workers that charge 200-300% more than the same workers in Mexico. The end result - VW car is made in the US, but it will cost 25% more to buy than today.

1. Would US customers buy a car that costs 25% more than today? How can they afford it; would Trump pay them the collected tariffs?

2. Would Germans risk building a factory knowing that buyers cannot afford their new prices?

At best, it is a net-zero game. The government gets the tariffs, but the American people will be forced to pay more for the same.

In the meantime, US auto manufacturers would raise prices on their US-made cars because they may still be cheaper than foreign cars made in the US. Again, US consumers are forced to pay more for the same and have less choices.

To summarize, it is 30-40 years too late to think about bringing manufacturing back home. It is not going to work because the final cost of production in the US will always be substantially more than overseas, which kills the purpose.

What's next - bringing back the cotton-growing industry to the US? A $40 US-made cotton T-shirt versus a $5 global price? Trump himself and his economic advisors are clueless about how the economy works today. It is not what used to be in the 1960's - it's a completely new / globalized animal.

I'm in a hotel in Berlin at the moment and fancied a nightcap. At the bar, they had no whisky at all and the only whiskey they have is American. I asked why, since t literal home of whisky is much nearer that that. The barman's answer? Jack Daniel's and Jim Beam are crazily cheap at the wholesaler right now since almost nobody is buying any.

hopefully Trump is not gone by then

Hopefully he is.

The tariffs are a ridiculous idea. They will tank the economy there however this seems to be part of President Mush and his protege Vance's plan

Your fake concern is trully touching, azzholes...

You do like your tariffs on imports, though, don't you...

The tariffs are a ridiculous idea.

No, moron...Only the US tariffs. Your tariffs are truly amazing...better than anal sex...

The tariffs will £uck America

That it almost certainly thiel/mush/vance's plan.

When the tipping point comes and they are in a real crisis, thiel/mush will set up private businesses to replace some of the functions of government. Of they get that far, which is very uncertain.

Miloslaw

You do like your tariffs on imports, though, don't you

You really are a moron aren't you?

We have a tariff of 20% VAT on EVERYONE!

Including British and European producers.

Your tariffs are not on American products.

Grab a brain FFS!

Completely agree! The tariffs will £uck America.

Your economies will tank before the USA and then you will be coming back and beg Trump for relief. Just California alone has the 5th largest economy in the world.

No, moron...Only the US tariffs. Your tariffs are truly amazing...better than anal sex...
@ Novichok

The tariffs haven't even gone into affect and these fools with TDS are in for a long ride..Hahaha
Hopefully he is.

Just a little under 4 years from now TDS man.... You might want to get some stronger meds! The Dems wont win another Presidency for at least a decade...lol

I cant wait for your head to explode when we access Greenland:)

We have a tariff of 20% VAT on EVERYONE!

VAT is an internal tax.

Quoting:

...the EU imposes a 10% tariff on American autos, compared to just 2.5% for European cars coming into the U.S...

Your ignorance is exasperating...

Europe and Canada issued a warning against travel to the US.

And I thank you, parasites, for it. I hate foreigners. They speak lousy English or that British abomination pretending to be English.

PolAmKrakow

@Tlum
Again, another who doesnt understand Americans.

1. Americans wont pay 25% more for any imported car, they will buy American, or not buy at all and wait for a new trade deal to be done.

2. Honda has already committed to building new cars in the US to avoid tariffs. Apple investing billions in the US now for phone production to avoid tariffs. Canadian companies moving to the US to avoid tariffs.

What Europeans dont understand is that the ultra wealthy dont care about the extra costs, and people that are not wealthy will simply buy other affordable products. Its only a matter of changing your spending habits, and price will make that happen quickly. This will also keep many Americans from spending stupidly on things they should not be buying on credit, which in turn will imrpove their overall financial health. Little Mikey making 50K a year shouldnt be driving a new Mercedes for 70K financed for 6 years just because Mercedes or another banks is greedy enough to give him the financing.

Its going to take a little time, but tariffs will work for the US. Maybe Canada will eliminate the 490% tariff on US agriculture products? Maybe the EU will realize that the VAT being charged on imports is just another tariff, and it should be equal to the tariffs the US charges? A 200% tariff on all EU wine and alcohol sales would send France, Italy and Spain to the psyche ward.

Of course, they will. That's why Euros hate American tariffs but love their own.

That's why Euros hate American tariffs but love their own.

Contrary to what you think Eruos do not give an F about the US in their daily lives.
Most are not even aware of issues like tariffs and such.
When it comes to Poland I need to think hard about what difference would US imposed taxes make for Poland.
I can't think about even one.
When it comes to selling weapons to the US, mostly small arms the US has already in place all kinds of F up and unnecessary complex regulations and requirements aimed at protecting the US domestic producers.
Maybe I don't know much about other countries and tariffs but I don't think that Poland will be much affected, as with Europe I think that in the long run, the US will be te wone affected.
This tariff issue seems to stem from the idea of economic war with China. In that context, tariffs would make sense. Anyway, I don't know enough about it to comment more.

The one thing I'm certain you are a certified lunatic like pawian, spewing nonsense day in and day out.

Ironside

for any imported car, t

Whichever. You should know why American cars do not sell on the European market.
Just in case I will say it - You sell fuel in gallons and in Europe in liters.
To stand a chance American cars would have to be at least 1/3 cheaper than they are.

jon357
31 Mar 2025  #501

You should know why American cars do not sell on the European market.

Very true.

Also, they're basically crap and tinny.

I used to have one years ago through work called a Crown Victoria (cultural appropriation or what??) and it was like driving a hearse. It did have its merits, mostly size however it probably wouldn't be the winner in a crash with a Volvo or Range Rober.

Eruos do not give an F about the US in their daily lives.

This is true, and when we do consider the US the image that comes to mind is of vulgar loudmouths.
Anyone visiting the place thinks its a very old fashioned imitation of somewhere normal.

The whinging done by Trump and the rest of the cult is a direct result of US foreign policy, their decisions. Cant blame Europeans for american decisions.

American funding and enabling of genocide via their rogue Nazi outpost in Palestine is the responsibility of the US not the indigenous people.

The lack of manufacturing jobs in the US is the fault of americans and their bollox economic policies.

The result of decisions made by Americans is the responsibility of Americans.

PolAmKrakow
31 Mar 2025  #503

@Ironside
We agree on this. US tariffs wont hurt Poland much. Nivea is only one large company I can see effected. Maybe Comarch but they have a US office so maybe not.

As for cars though, the reason more arent sold in Europe is two fold. Import tariffs in Europe are higher on US cars than European cars sent to the US, add in VAT and it becomes worse. Second, many US cars are simply too big for EU roads. I saw an Escalade in Krakow the other day and it was too big to park anywhere. Fuel measurements have nothing to do with it.

@Barney
Americas problems are created by America. Agree completely. Now its time to stop. Fix the problems in the US before trying to fix anyone else's.

Barney
31 Mar 2025  #504

@PolAmKrakow
Import tariffs in Europe are higher on US

And US tariffs on pickups is higher than the other way cos thats what americans use to move the dead hitchikers around.

cms neuf
31 Mar 2025  #505

Why "add in the VAT" ? - European consumers pay VAT even if the car was made in Europe.

PolAmKrakow
31 Mar 2025  #506

@cms neuf
Its an extra cost on top of already unfair import tariffs. So I hope Trump ups all tariffs until other countries want to play fairly. If not, fvck em.

cms neuf
31 Mar 2025  #507

But it's an extra cost on all cars - foreign or European.

Why are you having difficulty with this very simple concept?

Barney
31 Mar 2025  #508

@PolAmKrakow
VAT is a sales tax and every item or service pays the same irrespective of country of origin, that's not a difficult concept to understand. Why does the US want to change the tax regime of foreign countries by lying to US voters?

Lenka
31 Mar 2025  #509

Its an extra cost

Yes, a cost everyone who wants to do business here pays. Even natives. It doesn't affect competitiveness of US products.

Meanwhile, away from advanced mathematics.

Turns out Pisshead Pete Hegseth has invited his wife to important meetings about Ukraine with the British (who I guess were too polite to ask her to leave), on top of that he got his brother a job in the Pentagon.

Both decisions that probably seemed a good idea after an afternoon on the pop. Of course there is no way Poland can continue to share intelligence with this alkie.
