Tying myself in knots? I haven't commented my position on it, because I know how these things develop: first you get footage that shows only a portion of the event and from only a narrow perspective. Then, you get the still shots that helps set the "cop is a murderer" battle cry.

The frenzy is set. Rationality is now out the window. It's all emotional.

Then, different angles start trickling in-but its too late for the masses, the sides have been drawn.

When I first saw the footage, my first knee-jerk reaction was the ICE agent was probably justified but not sure it was necessary.

Today, after seeing the footage from a nearby surveillance video, it shows that the agent was actually more in the front of the car when driver moves forward than I originally thought. The video agent took corroborates that.

Also, the agent's video also shows that the woman's wife-or-whatever was taunting the agent which is reasonable for the agent to think these folks were possible aggressive.

Another thing that caught my attention was the driver started accelerating toward the agent not only after another agent ordered her out if the car but also while the wife was trying to open door to get in car.

This leads me to think the driver wasn't simply trying to leave peacefully. Wouldn't she have waited for her wife to get in? Instead had some other intention. An intwntion none of us know for certainty.

But the agent didn't have time to kindly ask her, he had a split second to protect himself from a car movimg at him.

"Shoot her TIRE " is not a real thing outside movies and leftist Reddit fantasies. Shooting a moving vehicle's tire is unreliable, dangerous, and still lethal force. Anyone claiming otherwise has learned everything they know about firearms from TV.

Officers don't fire warning shots, don't aim for tires, and don't pause active encounters to satisfy internet moral theater. Once a vehicle is perceived as a weapon, the situation escalates immediately.

Calling someone "scum" while ignoring context, training standards, and split-second decision-making isn't analysis. It's just more of your leftard propaganda.

The woman, by the way, a radical activist and member of the ICE Watch group for obstruction of federal law enforcement agents, leaves her three children at home and drives 5 hours to Minneapolis to obstruct ICE agents while they are doing their duty. And before the incident itself, she blocked the street for 3 minutes, while her lesbian partner was filming with her phone in order to gather as many views as possible. In an attempt to escape, she first turns her wheels forward and moves towards the ICE agent, who instinctively fires the first shot through the windshield. It's amazing how all these details are conveniently left out when spreading propaganda.

The woman received a legal and well-founded order to get out of the car, because she was caught committing a criminal offense (obstructing a federal officer in the performance of his duty), as well as a couple of traffic violations. Instead of obeying the lawful order, she either deliberately moves in the direction of the federal agent (direct intention for the crime of assaulting an officer with a weapon, because a moving vehicle is considered a weapon in the USA), or she wants to run away but is aware that with this action she is endangering the physical integrity of the federal agent (possible intention for the same crime). Contrary to what is stated in some media, the federal agent is not obliged to investigate the possibility of causing the least damage to the attacker in the event of a simultaneous illegal attack on him, but in such a case he can perform any action that repels the attack. So the use of force is legal, which means it is not murder.

Our cops get regularly "conked" on the head by "alconauts" and rowdy teenagers. If a cop kills someone without absolutely clear necessity - you can have a cop lynching on your hands, or some other nasty conflagration where the cops have to barricade themselves inside their own police department. Entire local governments can get dismissed, and Putin will become involved.

Knowing how trigger happy American cops are - it definitely is irrational to behave in certain ways around them. I don't commit any crimes, and I still tense up when passing by them. My documents are all in order, but I still sweat when driving past some ICE checkpoint in Florida.

My question (to no one in particular) - is why your society likes to build up these heroes out of certain classes of people. I always thought it was comical how everyone contorts themselves into a pretzel with the "thank you for your service" business, around military personnel. The same goes with the infinite piety towards cops - and their "oh so difficult" jobs.

I thought you had the societal mentality of "I pay your salary - where is my respect?!".

Why don't people go crazy for firemen, or teachers, or paramedics? It's only the folks with the big guns whose ego you must assiduously service.

From a Russian perspective, to me it's an absolute no-brainer that it's better to have a cop with crushed toes, or a broken pelvis from being run over - than a dead woman. Maybe my approach is too utilitarian, but the business about "was the wheel turned", or "is a moving car a deadly weapon" or "was there even sufficient time to make an accurate judgement of her intentions" is all beside the point. I don't think you shoot people in the face even if you think you're about to be run over or dragged on the hood of a car. Also, how does shooting someone in the face prevent you from getting run over? Doesn't it make it more likely as the vehicle will lose control?

Maybe because in America people are bigger strangers to each other than in more homogenous societies? Maybe it has to do with federal officers descending on a specific locality where they don't have any personal connections? In Russia a cop would be afraid to show his face in the street after doing something like this.
