I do not buy into the Billionaires v the Rest of Us argument. I don't begrudge billionaires-most of them earned their billions by providing something us commoners benefit from and employ us (typically at a fair wage). Besides, many of them grew up as commoners, like some you named, Thiel, Clinton, Altman.

Also, to say we need commoners to represent us is kind of meaningless. What we need is people of skill and conscience, regardless of socio-economic standing.

What we need is money to be removed from politics. We need to figure out a system where campaigns aren't financed by private citizens or groups and representatives cannot receive anything from lobbyists nor can they be hired by anyone connected to a lobby they helped for 5 years after leaving office.

Only when money is removed will we have a fighting chance, IMO.
