Poland or Jamaica

The grass is never greener on the other side, Johnny. Trust me, I know.

Always be suspicious of candidates who preach "peace" and "freedom"!! This is usually code for "Laissez-faire scumbags of the country -UNITE!" More important is "peace" and "security" for all deserving, hard-working citizens who pay taxes and play by the same rules as the rest of us.

A hedge-fund mogul for instance is surely no less entitled to basic services and affordable amenities of daily life than the rest- but he certainly isn't inherently entitled to MORE!!!!

And this remains the key fissure dividing our country today:-)

I posted yesterday the words "peace" and "security". Add to that the word the Puritan-Republican loathes most deeply, "comfort".

The dyed-in the-wool Republican lives in order to stamp out the true freedom of enjoyment that comes as a matter of course with being a contended US citizen:-)

"peace" and "security"

Yes, that, after food and basic safety and a roof over your head is all important. Comfort too, and not unreasonable in the developed world.

Nevertheless, I still don't understand what the Trumpists and teabaggers or whatever have against the idea of a National Health Service. For all its faults it's a hundred trillion times better than what is there now, even with the positive reforms the President has pushed through despite opposition in the red states.

I heard that people there even have to pay money when they have a baby. What are women supposed to do if they don't have the cash? Try and hold it in?

Lyzko

The Tea Partyers are essentially Puritans and want everyone else to be miserable except for them, of course:-)

50 gays shot dead in America many more wounded.
This thread has been used for everything else so here it is:
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fire inside a crowded Florida gay nightclub early Sunday before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said. The attack left at least 50 people dead, making it the worst mass shooting in American history.

Trump though, and more guns in the hands of average vigilante-types, Johnny, is NOT the answer!!!

Nasty coward killing unarmed civilians. Bought guns from shop couple days before. Crazy country! Maybe trump can fix the gunlaws in this broken society. .

Maybe trump can fix the gunlaws in this broken society. .

How's that by making more of them ?
Gun laws, ha, 72 gun laws were broken in that shooting.
Guns, DAMN IT ! IT WASN'T THE GUN THAT DID THE KILLING !
IT WAS THE RADICAL JIHADIST MUSLIM TERRORRIST that did the killing !
The Liberals jump on this to ban guns again.
Happy horse hockey......did the gun laws that ban guns for years in France stop the Muslim terrorists from shooting people ?
Trump could fix it by requiring everyone in this country be trained in how to use one and then let them carry it.
If ten or so of them gay boys and girls were trained and had purse pistols they could have saved a lot of lives in that club.
Tom Brokoff came out and his first words were to ban the AR-14 assault rifle.
Problem is there is no such weapon but he wanted them banned by golly.
Besides, Trump has tried to fix the problem by banning Muslims from coming into America.
A mosque just a short distance from the shooting had a sermon on the local radio to kill homosexuals and do them a favor because they can not be forgiven.
When are people gonna catch on to what Islam and the Koran is all about.

The same lack of vigilance that allowed this guy not merely to get a job, despite serious mental/anger issues etc..., but a GUN no less, points right back to the identical slipshod attitude which allowed 9/11 to occur in the first place; Veep the Creep Cheney condoned NORAD looking the other way and protecting illegal Saudi nationals at the expense of US citizens, soldiers without uniforms I call them, who walked unwittingly into the line of fire and died as a result!!!!

In the end, Johnny and others, those three-odd thousand didn't die from the explosion, but from BELIEF!!! Belief that their country would protect them:-)

Why won't Trump come out and say this sort of thing?? 'Cuz he's scared that the same fate would befall him as would any other truth teller....assassination masquerading as the proverbial "accident".

The same lack of vigilance that allowed this guy not merely to get a job,

G4S (the British company he worked for, famous for their incompetence) stocks have plummetted today directly because of the shooting.

Trump

Trump's response so far has been sickening. Probably cost him votes too.

G4S (the British company he worked for, famous for their incompetence) stocks have plummetted today directly because of the shooting.

Wasn't there already a huge scandal over their handling of security for the Olympic Games in London? I seem to recall that they were hiring huge amounts of foreigners with no background checks whatsoever?

jon357

their handling of security for the Olympic Games in London

That and their 'prisoner escort service' becoming notorious for dramatic escapes. Their stocks plummetted due to the Olympics too - fortunately I'd sold mine the month before.

If it turns out he got the gun in question via his work, the lawsuits by survivors and the families of those murdered will cost them millions.

Trump would've agreed with the following "logic":

A: D'you realize more people have been killed by guns than by anything else?

B: Oh yeah? Would it make you feel any better if they were pushed out of windows?!

The old adage "Guns don't kill people, people kill people!", simply no longer holds water (bottled, Perrier or otherwise). If the people didn't have the guns within easy reach in the first place, they couldn't use 'em, now could they??

Trump though, and more guns in the hands of average vigilante-types, Johnny, is NOT the answer!!!

Gun-free zone triumphs once more.
Trump would've agreed with the following "logic":

What about your logic? Ban guns and there will be no gun related crimes as if the law ever stop anyone from committing crimes.

Give an assault rifle and 500 rounds to every single American and the world will be a safer place.

There won't be many Americans left, though.

Lyzko
13 Jun 2016  #1907

Look at your own country, Iron! In Poland, gun-related deaths are no comparison with those in the US:-)
Now, don't give me that "Poland's a smaller country." routine, 'cuz it doesn't hold water either.

Why do you think the US has sadly become the laughing stock word wide?? We think because we've conquered space, we've solved the problems on earth. Well, we haven't and perhaps the US can draw a few lessons from Europe. Trouble is, we're not going to because we think we're better because we're just plain pig-headed, that's all!

If ten or so of them gay boys and girls were trained and had purse pistols they could have saved a lot of lives in that club

America has has the higher gun ownership in the world 112 per hundred people (wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country)

Could you explain to me why the USA has the highest mass shootings than any other country on the planet

Mass shootings: There were 372 mass shootings in the US in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870, according to the Mass Shooting Tracker, which catalogues such incidents. A mass shooting is defined as a single shooting incident which kills or injures four or more people, including the assailant.

bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34996604

Please explain why more guns = less deaths when reality says more guns in the USA = more deaths.

disclaimer: I want every American armed with a assault rifle and 500 rounds becuase the world would be safer. Guns are good. And fun. God Bless America.

Lyzko

'Think the issue has never been the presence or existence of guns, but rather, the responsible use of them by citizens who feel they are empowered to take matters into their own hands at the drop of a hat!

The Scandis, the Dutch, the Germans etc. aren't smarter than we, they simply exercise far greater restraint in most similar situations:-)

I don't feel like talking statics today. I can only say that is a disingenuous argument because those total numbers tell us little. Compering oranges and apples here.
Why do you think the US has sadly become the laughing stock word wide??

Nobody is laughing at the USA apart from some sad elitist leftists with a god complex.
Well, we haven't and perhaps the US can draw a few lessons from Europe.

No, I would advice against it. Why instead of going after the second amendment not to sit down and resolve the issue in a rational manner, calibrated to solve problems. Simple minded solutions - ban guns - less people die are just simply totalitarian ideas.

Ironside
13 Jun 2016  #1911

Could you explain to me why the USA has the highest mass shootings than any other country on the planet

Inconsistency. Once you have a country with a large gun ownership you cannot create guns-free zones, cities with strict gun laws, that is a big invitation for every loony and criminal. Laws and practice related to mental health issues, in short real mental cases that would be closely supervised or locked up in Europe, in the USA are roaming streets.
Debate is stifled because leftist are set on banning guns rather than find a way to promote responsible ownership.

Lyzko
13 Jun 2016  #1912

Ironside, like all too many post-60's libertarian types, you regularly confuse totalitarianism with the basic need of government to intervene when it deems fit, that is, in order to maintain the order and safety of her citizens when matters spiral out of control!!

Curious how Poles, post-Castro Cubans etc. often become so rabidly Republican on such issues as gun control and the like.

Geez, you people constantly overreact to governmental measures because you've been so badly burned by the Jaruszelski Era (..not that I much blame you):-)

peterweg

No, of course not, because the talk is that guns kill people.

Lyzko

No, it's because like most of us who think we're always right, usually blanch big time when we're wrong or are shown the facts to prove us wrong:-)

TheOther

ban guns - less people die are just simply totalitarian ideas

Works in most other countries, so why not here in the U.S.? People will come up with th argument, of course, that there are already tens of millions of weapons in the American streets and that a ban wouldn't make sense. Fair enough ... let's ban ammo then.

Nobody is laughing at the USA

Wait until Trump takes over...

peterweg

Inconsistency. Once you have a country with a large gun ownership you cannot create guns-free zones, cities with st**

Thats pretty spot on. The USA allows people with mental disease to roam the streets and unsurprisingly a number of these get access to assault rifles.

Given the choice between controlling acceess to military weapons and treating the mentally sick the USA chooses ... neither.

Its a tragedy

Lyzko
14 Jun 2016  #1917

I've never known a country in the modern era which can be so easily and consistently jerked around by bad guys as the US, it's truly pathetic!!

Classic New Yorker cartoon after 9/11 showing a policeman on his cellphone stopping a motorist on theirs, whereupon the cop tickets the dude while in the background a plane hits Tower OneLOL
:-)

A: D'you realize more people have been killed by guns than by anything else?
(false)
No I did not know that.
Did you know that Doctors malpractice kills more people than guns. (true)
You are 20 times more likely to be killed by a doctor than you are a gun.
If the people didn't have the guns within easy reach in the first place, they couldn't use 'em, now could they?

Tell the people that got murdered in Paris that where guns have been banned forever.
Give an assault rifle and 500 rounds to every single American and the world will be a safer place.

Almost every single American owns a gun with no problems'
Why do you think the US has sadly become the laughing stock word wide??

Because the Liberals progressive thinking is failing in America just like it has in Europe.
Could you explain to me why the USA has the highest mass shootings than any other country on the planet

Have you been to Syria or Iraq lately ?
Then add in the terrorist acts in America by Muslims and what do you expect ?
because the talk is that guns kill people.

Statistics......how many mass killings in America have been carried out by Muslims ?
Come on Peter, tell us as you like statistics. How many ?????
Now can we get back on topic of how wonderful Trump will be as our new President please.
I loaded mine today with one in the chamber and put it in the chair by the front door. The mailman came with the mail, then the paper boy came with the newspaper and little kids had a lemonade stand out on the front lawn and my gun did not kill a single one of them. Can you imagine that.
Guns do not kill people, people kill people.

jon357

Tell the people that got murdered in Paris that where guns have been banned forever.

Tell that to the hundreds of mass shooting victims in the USA where guns are more easily available.

johnny reb
14 Jun 2016  #1920

And how many of those victims were killed by a Muslim jon.
I know of 5o just this last week end that were killed by a Muslim terrorist.
To bad some of them gay boys didn't have their purse pistols with them to save many.
