I would say that's pretty accurate, American are weird and nuts about race (and it doesn't all come from whites - many non-whites want some degree of segregation and help keep everyone on edge to prevent too much mixing or people being too comfortable).

I don't get class in Britain (Americans can barely think about class in realistic terms) beyond noticing elements of a kind of class... identity and loyalty and pride which is only rarely found in the US (I also get the idea that everybody hates the UK middle class... even the middle class don't much like themselves).
