Yeah, bacon and cabbage would be the right dish. When I was a kid my granny (from Tipp) would do bacon and cabbage a couple of times a year, not that often. She'd soak the bacon overnight to get the salt out and then the cabbage was cooked in the bacon water left from the cooking of the joint. The next day the left over cabbage would be fried in butter. God, it was yummy! I think bacon and cabbage is a rarity now in Irish homes, more of a tourist thing really.

BS. Bleeding or not, any threat to the child's safety is a legal basis to remove it from the danger zone - even if that child resists and without the parents' consent. Those points can be resolved later. In peacetime, by immediately notifying the police. In wartime, it's not that simple.
