The U.K. has decolonised and our current PM, Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary (all three Great Offices of State) are sons or daughters of the empire, Portugal and Spain have decolonised though not wholly by their choice, France has partially decolonised and is desperate to retain its arms-length colonies in Africa by preventing them developing an industrial base or good education systems, Japan is content with its home islands, Germany and Austria's land-base empires are a thing of the past and Türkiye no longer claims the lands held by the Ottomans.

r*SSia however hasn't learnt the lessons of the past, and China (like the U.K. centuries ago) is growing an economic empire to the consternation of countries who (unlike them) do not currently operate concentration camps.
