Absolutely. I just felt stricken with sadness. The first couple of weeks were hell, but now it is much better. I don't need help in any form; time is the best healer.

So, to answer your question, no depression, just sadness. As for professional help, I provided a definite answer in the previous post.The thought had never entered my mind.

Yes, on one level, but also what the Greeks make clear is that suffering is a special human privilege.

In different stories, there are instances where the gods become angry at some animal for displaying human-like sadness - and as punishment strike them dumb.

Understand - they are not compassionate towards the animals. They are not trying necessarily to rid them of pain. They are ANGRY at the animals that they dare experience human-level pain.

It is reserved only for us.

This makes it seem like more a gift, than a punishment.

Some things are axiomatic and don't require proof.

I hate to be the atheist teaching people scripture, but Paul wrote to the Romans:

Then there's this other guy, Job, who God absolutely wrecked. Very much just for fun, because he was bored. Basically he sh*t on Job.

Maybe this kinda "loserdom" and "Debbie downerism" is too "depressing" for average Americans to appreciate, who expect non-stop happiness... but this is wisdom 2,000+ years old.

Sadness has many parts. There is also the old-age depression that is not caused by individual events.

I have solved this problem by pumping iron, arguing, and being pissed about people I don't like.

From my pov, anger is a lot better than sadness - if those are the only choices. It's the difference between fight and flight.

When I see that I am getting too mellow, I watch YouTube videos that have "Entitled Karen" in the title and in no time I am back to my normal, healthy self. I hate those stupid bit*ches...

Also...I don't drink...booze makes me weak and stupid happy...I will be speaking at a local college soon with this as one of the subjects.
