They're not the worst decade but I remember that Polish music critics (and often the audience) seemed to hate the idea of melody... anything with a clear and pleasant melody was branded "łatwo wpadające w ucho" as if that were evidence of inferiority...

A (to me) very underrated Polish group of that time was Big Day

As for other songs about the summer, I remember this video to a song about the summer with lots of people in it but it was filmed while it was raining. Lots of people in the video, lots of colours and kind of 1990s atmosphere. I can't remember the song or the artists, I just remember there was such a video. And now it's gonna bother me. Any ideas what it might be? :)

I came across this amazing rendition of Tchaikovsky's Sugar Plum Fairy by a Polish couple known as GlassDuo. They play the biggest glass harp in the world which spans 5 octaves. Not sure this is to everyone's taste, but I thought it was brilliant.

The video is well worth a watch - very low budget, but seems to perfectly sum up the 1980's in Poland.

So, I think that Chopin was probably the greatest musical talent to come from Poland.
But I am not an expert of Chopin and not even a great fan of classical music.
But I do know that he gained musical influences by travelling across Poland and that Polih Folk music and even Jewish music influenced his compositions.Perhaps someone with more knowledge than me will post some of his greatest pieces.

Me? I am just a pleb when it comes to that sort of music.
I love my Rock, Blues, Jazz and Funk.

There are sometimes some voices that just chill you to the bone.....this is one of them...
I can think of at least one American female singer with a voice like this and one French one.
From the voice alone I can tell that she has had a very tough life.

I liked that one.
It is interesting that some Polish music does share some Germanic traits, especially the nihilistic ones.
But it is not rhe same as German musiic.

I liked the Sanah song.
But this may sound almost sacrilegious, but I only liked your third Budka Suflera post..... the others left me cold....hey, we all have our different tastes and I admire your broad range and acceptance of different styles of music.

I think Polish Popular music is difficult for non Poles to get their heads around it and enjoy it, as it can be quite deep.

A couple of decades ago, you couldn't get away from that song here. In the circular underpass near Metro Centrum where the small shops are, they were piping it through the speakers 24/7. It must have driven the shop staff crazy.

I don't know which version I prefer to be honest, they are both great.

I am sure this next song will soon become popular, although it's not really my taste. I'm actually quite impressed with it because the majority of Eurovision songs are absolute sh!te, but I do feel that Poland has done quite well with this! Bajaga is writer, singer and leader of band `Bajaga i instruktori` from Belgrade. As songs of all good Serbian musicians, as I read, his also got their versions all over the Slavic world.

I really don't see or hear it making it into the finals... I've heard that the singer is a favorite of Kurski's wife....

Mostly the entries this year seem blah or like warmed up leftovers from last year.....

Switzerland and Iceland (both warmed over re-entries) probably top my list. Don't like Italy (a perennial fave of mine) I sort of like Spain but it has no chance... Lithuania and Malta (more warmed up leftovers) are okay.... I guess..... nothing new makes much of an impression....
