It's weird how folk music was marginalized in Poland compared to other countries in the region... popular music based on folk music has always been a thing in Romania

But Poland seemed to want to forget about its folk heritage in popular music

It wasn't really a living tradition. Sort of frozen in time and done by clubs who were concerned about how Polish it sounded and how faithful the costumes they wore were.

Their loss.

There is some living folk though. Not just that forage/reggae fusion from a few years back or Brathanki which I always liked but something with a bit more zip. Do you know a group called 'Zakopower'?

More interesting and experimental Polish Music......

It has to be said that a lot of Polish music can be quite depressing but enlightening and inspiring at the same time.

I would be the first person to tell you that I am not a great fan of Rap music, but to understand modern Polish Music, you have to accept that it is a very large part of it.

And to be honest, it is not a brutal or violent as American and British Rap.
This song is OK by me......

I like this woman, she has a good voice and choses pretty good tunes.

Just a reminder that much as some Poles might not welcome it, Poland is,very slowly, becoming more multi cultural.

The problem is that there aren't too many Poles on here to post music.

I love the Kortez ones you posted. He's made some great songs. I also like the Mela Kotelek one but wasn't keen on the rap or reggae style tunes.

I don`t post here coz this thread is about everything which actually means nothing. I prefer to post in threads which focus on specific types of music.

Nothing against rock but most of it does nothing for me. And.... I can't imagine just listening to one kind of music all the time when there's so much great stuff still to be discovered in all sorts of genres....

And I can often find something to admire even in music I'm not crazy about....

I've never been crazy about the song 'tańczące Eurydiki' (dancing Eurydyces) but I can tell that's a back-breaker to sing and marvel at how well Anna German negotiates its many difficulties. Amazing technique and expression.
