Crossroads

Am familiar with this movie.

I love the Blues to death.

A universal language to connect all humans.

Yeah, Robert Johnson is a major influence on rock music

@Bobko

My teen and early 20's was all about music-mostly rock, and you can't dig rock without the delta blues: Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Son House.

Who are some if your favorites?

A buddy of mine is such a huge fan of Johnson's he went looking for his gravesite when he traveled down that way a decade or so ago-he said it wasn't as easy as you'd think to find.

I like Elmore James' music.

Who are some if your favorites?

Robert Johnson himself. Of course.

But my favorite is Son House.

Listen to the "Death Letter", by him. About showing up at a funeral for a girl he was planning to marry. No other song you have to listen to, to ground yourself right back into the Earth.

My homeboy works for the Smithsonian cataloguing prison camp songs and 1920 and 30s blues, so I know quite a bit about this period.

The Mississippi Delta Blues is the closest mortal man can come to understanding the Russian soul.

I still listen to Son House. He has a gospel sound I like. Letter is a great tune. Yonder Comes My Mother is another...many others as well.

Your buddy's job sounds pretty cool.

The Mississippi Delta Blues is the closest mortal man can come to understanding the Russian soul.

At first discovering, I thought it was music of suffering and sadness...a droning hopelessness. Then, I realized that's wrong, it's music of the longing soul.

Is that the Russian soul? A soul longing for something?

Stevie Ray Vaughan was the best blues guitarist.

Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon

And I saw them several times in the 1980s..:)

I love the Blues to death.

Agreed on both.

@Joker
@jon357

I like both your posts, especially Jokers and especially the Micki Free ones.

Milo, you like blues if I'm not mistaken, you familiar with Robert Johnson?

The Blues is what I love most and yes, I know Robert Johnson's music and loved your post.

@Milo , this new Slash version is awesome!

It certainly is and the whole album is superb.

I love the Blues to death.A universal language to connect all humans.

I couldn't agree more.See how music brings us all closer together?

I am glad to see this thread getting back to the music.

Can we keep the arguments in Random and not in this thread please.

When it comes to more modern Blues, I really rate Gary Clarke Junior.

Let's try to keep this thread alive!

Guys, do you not see how music is bringing us closer together?

We may disagree on many subjects, but music unites us in a humanitarian form.

Crow
24 May 2024  #441

Yes. Like when birds die singing. Have you heard of that type of bird? At one point, the bird decides to impale itself on a thorn, and while impaling itself, it sings more beautifully than ever.

Come on Snitch, quit the booze this afternoon and take a nap.
How are we ever going to win the hearts of the Limey's with you making nasty remarks like that.
Grow up man.

Sorry mate, have to agree with Jim on this one, that was a bit strong, even if it was done in jest.
But yeah, "Kingfish" is outstanding!

@AntV

Nice American Jazz.

Here is an old British Blues/Rock band that I am sure Joker would not suggest that they eat $hit.

More great American music.

I love John Coltrane and Miles Davis... When I was a little kid every Sunday morning my Dad would play his jazz albums.

My mom, the exact opposite...Beatle freak.

Here's one of my favorites of all time.
Milestones......

Im pleasantly surprised with the musical intellect on PF

Bring on the Jazz! Or Jazz fusion, did Miles invent it?
