In honor of Oasis... a one hit wonder by their peers

Feniks

This was one of their biggest hits, "Wonderwall".

This is the only song of theirs I liked. I never did understand their popularity. Very obviously Beatles influenced but without their talent. Still, each to their own.

@ Joker

Never heard of Finger Eleven but I really liked that song. Another band I will have to research.

Oasis, one of the greatest Rock bands of the nineties.... Liam has been far more offensive to Noel

I actually like a lot of Oasis... I never thought of them as godhead but they were very, very good. The brother dynamics... I think the CW is that they envied each other, Liam wanted Noel's incredible songwriting gifts and Noel wanted Liam's rockstar chick-magnet persona... they were the best when they concentrated on their strengths.

I also like this lounge style cover...

It's odd how many 90s anthems sound great as lounge... there are great lounge versions of 'Smells like teen spirit' and 'Black hole sun' as well....

This one drove me nuts with its repetitious beat.
Why it was popular beats me. (pun intended)

Very obviously Beatles influenced but without their talent.

I think Paul McCarthy asked them to stop comparing themselves to the Beatles.

This was another of my favorite's in the day.
You may even like it Milo.

You are spot on JR Jim, I have been a rebel all my life!I have never compiled a top twenty of my favourite songs, but this would be in it!

Talking about Oasis, Feniks said;

OK, I get it..... Oasis are not popular on this forum......

Never heard of Finger Eleven but I really liked that song.

Me neither, it was OK, but left me a bit cold......

Talking about the Stone Roses;

This song kicks ass for LimeyManc

I only posted Oasis because I liked them and they were in the news.But I always preferred the Stone Roses, even Ian Brown's solo stuff later.
I wasn't intending to make any posts tonight but this thread has been so busy that I just have to post some Stone Roses stuff.......

Joker

Post some good ones as I'm not that familiar with them. I like their first album

Miloslaw

Ok, time for a Stone Roses and Ian Brown blast out!!!
Their mix of psychedelia and Rock was almost like Grunge to me......

Probably their most classic track, psychedelic and funky......

We move on now to Ian Brown's solo stuff....... this was a great song and video.

Ian Brown's collaboration with UNKLE produced this absolute classic song and video........

Oasis are not popular on this forum......

I think of them as extremely British... I don't think they ever had a big following outside the UK (like Cliff Richard?)

I remember buying their first album and playing it for some Polish people... who were very 'meh' about it. I think they were too melodic to appeal to a Polish audience at the time (which preferred more dissonance). And the lyrics though often really, really good didn't appeal to the part of the Polish audience that might understand them.

Stone Roses

A revelation in their day.

Oasis

Four good songs, a lot of hype.

@Feniks

I liked all your posts.I am a fan of electronic or dance music bands writing songs in a "Rock Mentality", which is why I love Prodigy,Pendulum and to a degree The Chemical Bros and even Ramstein!

@Feniks I liked all your posts.

Not me, I like music that has harmony and understandable lyrics.
Bands that have no lyrics and just a bunch of repetitious noise are annoying to me.
I find this one most enjoyable

And now, for something completely different.... well not.... 'completely'... but kind of different.

One of the things that seems very weird to me about modern Europe is how little neighboring countries know about each other's popular culture..... Polish people know far more about US of UK popular culture than anything going on closer to them...

Consider Romania.... although at their geographically closest part (as the crow flies) they're not that far away it might as well be a different universe. And Romanian music is surprisingly varied and interesting (partly due to a law requiring radio stations to play a certain percentage of local music which meant that broadcasters had an interest in helping the music scene develop.....

First up "Stele cazatoare" (Falling stars) an easy going rap song about nostalgia and realizing you're an adult now with a very, very catchy chorus. Performed by Puya and Tudor Chirila (I'm not sure which is which).

Consider Romania.

Whilst Rap Music is not exactly one of my favourite genres, I like Romanians!This "Italian/Slav" nation has a lot to offer.
I quite liked the tune too!

Is Limp Biskit considered Rap?

Miloslaw

Is Limp Biskit considered Rap?

Depends by who.For me they are a Rock band that use more modern music to get across to a younger audience, much like Linkin' Park,Pendulum, Prodigy or even Rammstein.I have no problem with that style of music.

Regular followers of this thread will know that both Joker and I are fanatical Electric Blues fans.But I have what I would call some "Heavy Electric Blues" songs for you tonight and even Joker may disagree with some of my posts because some are not that Bluesy, but I can hear the Blues influence in them.
I know there are some Blues fans on here but not sure how "Heavy Electric Blues" will go down, so I'll start you off gently with Trapeze;

Doesn't everyone love a bit of Aerosmith?

Originally known as Yesterday and Today this band has been going, on and off, for many years now as Y&T.

I'll end with two posts from fairly obscure bands..... but they're good...... This is Thundermug from Canada and a song from 1974.

For my last post, this is a band that I came across by accident whilst searching other stuff and I know absolutely nothing about them and so any info would be interesting.This is Long John and the Killer Blues Collective;

More with the Romanian music...

Gypsies (aka Roma, Romani) are a minority in Romania at about 3.5 percent of the population. But they are particularly important in music (as they traditionally have been in Spain).
Also, like Spain, gypsies are not sharply divided from the rest of the population but rather there are degrees of assimilation and so they are found across the musical spectrum from pure folk, turbo folk, pop and hip hop.

Todays' performer is Connect-R a rapper of Gyspy ancestry.
The song is called 'Vara nu dorm' (I don't sleep in summer).
Again the tempo is relaxed rather than aggressive and the song is about having a good time on the Black Sea Coast where 'a weekend in Mamaia is worth a whole season in Varna ' (Romania and Bulgaria are historically rivals).
the chorus:
"I don't sleep in summer, I don't get drowsy
The dawn catches me walking on the beach
Because I don't sleep in summer"

I didn't want to leave your buddy out so I picked one that would relax his hypertension.
If he listens to this while smoking his nightly herb it may help him relax some.

More Romanian music!

This time it's a song by What's UP (the stage name of a single singer.... I don't get it either).

Anyway, the song is called Taxi and the song is about engaging in lots of foolish and self-destructive behavior in the wake of a break up....

"Taxi, take me wherever you want,
No matter where, I'll be okay.
I want to believe that nothing happened
Take me wherever you want, but don't take me home"

The video, though from 2014 or thereabouts reminds me a _lot_ of early 90s Poland.....
