s. The Russians have sent in 95% of their 150 K they had available. They are getting their a$$es kicked around every corner.
They have 400-450k on the border, of which they sent in 150k... the weakest 1/3 formed mostly of young conscripts and in 70s era vehicles that don't even have GPS let alone night vision... again, cannon fodder to test the situation. the professional soldiers are high tech weapons are currently in reserves. An invasion is launched with different fronts and waves.
Lastly, it's the Ukranians retreating from positions, not the Russians. The Russians invaded, occupied and continue to occupy all major airports within 24 hours. Considering how much they already occupied with their weakest soldiers while Ukranian is throwing everything including the kitchen sink and were able to advance 40-50+ km daily during the first week tells you all you need to know. The Chechens are just begging to be set in and I'm sure the Cossacks are getting itchy trigger fingers to. Once they're let loose the Ukranians won't know how to handle them.
I believe they're split the country in half down the middle at Kiev and keep the eastern part. That's where most of the Russian population lives, that's the axis their forces took to control (they'll start doing pincers around cities soon), and where they'll have the least resistance versus w. Ukranian i.e. Lwow.
I'm not supporting Russia in this. They're causing a lot of problems for Poland, US and of course Ukraine. Nonetheless, I'm trying to be realistic about the situation and trying to figure out how to best maximize a profit during this unique situation.

Why is Putin most heavily targeting Mariupol, Odessa and Kharkiv and not other cities?
To get the Ukranians out, Kharkiv is a very industrial city and well Mariupol is the base of Azov battalion. Odessa most likely to control more ports and land more amphibious vehicles while cutting off sea access
