There are all kinds of them, from war veterans to enthusiasts it seems. Someone left this interview with this character (ex-soldier but also enthusiast) who changed his mind and returned home when he heard how poorly they were getting paid.

This Ukrainian foreign legion was a mix, according to what was written. But war veterans most likely predominate, except that these veterans of the Western military have little experience in a war like this. When was the last time an American soldier had to take care of enemy aircraft and missiles, and even artillery to a more serious extent? Not the last couple of generations.
One foreign medic who gave up after this attack yesterday wrote on Reddit how the Kiev regime use them as cannon fodder.
