This is somewhat disturbing, isn't it? Russians have, throughout history watered down their Slavic soul in the vast Asian steppes and allowed Mongolian genes to darken their souls, but they are still Slavs, aren't they?

That's why I find it so disturbing. Blood ties are rather strong. Despite everything, I cannot quite bring myself to hate Russians. I just can't. I hate their elites, their imperialism, violence and disregard for truth and personal freedom, but I can't force myself to hate Russia as such. For geopolitical/civilisational reasons we are doomed to mutual hostility, but hopefully not hatred.

Soldiers getting into bar fights isn't anything uncommon, especially if they're drunk. Some of those fights can be pretty "epic" with chairs flying, etc. Grant punched one guy and pushed another one. I know about much worse stuff done by British Paras or young Navy Seals. That being said, what Grant did was a misconduct for which you can get demoted or even kicked out of the military.

Ukrainians have been given large amounts of equipment but they are apparently not putting it to much use. We don't see as many Ukrainian counter-attacks at there were supposed to be. Perhaps they are saving them for some sort of large counter-offensive in the future but maybe, just maybe, we are witnessing something else here. There might have been some sort of secret agreement to allow Russia limited success in Ukraine and then end the war without further escalation. With the constant stream of Western weapons and nothing even close to required attacker-advantage in numbers on the Russian side, the war should take somewhat different course by now. It hasn't, so conclusions have to be drawn.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing. Apparently, the powers that be came to the conclusion that Putin should be allowed to "save face" (whatever that means). I see no other reason why Russians, with their Soviet era equipment and clueless conscripts from Asian steppes, still haven't been crushed.
