I hear that Mariupol is recovering and life there is getting back to normal.

Recovering, but far from normal. Over 60% of soviet times "panel" style buildings is damaged beyond repair. Constant demining works - landmines was placed everywhere by Azov/AFU. Lots of unexploded ordnance already removed. Part of the city got electricity and water supply, in another parts only social objects is connected to grid by temporary scheme. Not enough transmission line capacity - on retreat ukrainian troops exploded electrical line poles and placed antipersonnel mines all around. Now russian sappers work on demining most crucial parts with "Uran" robots, exploding every mine on at least 100x100 meter square around every pole to be rebuilt and making demined line along future wires for vehicles to pass safely. Transformers also was damaged, works underway. Sewage system works in progress as well. As I heard, main part of work expected to be completed together with second 110 kV electricity feeder in a week or so. Lots if construction companies from Russia will rebuild Mariupol, Azovstal factory will be not rebuilt where it was before, only Azovmash/Ilyich plants planned to be restored and upgraded.

Beaches around city is heavily mined, including underwater mines. Many set with bobby traps.

Recovering, but far from normal

It was very normal before Russians arrived and destroyed it.... for...... nothing.....

Ukraine was invaded and bears no blame for anything it did to repeal the invaders....

Russians arrived and destroyed it.... for...... nothing.....

And a lot of the people they abducted are still in russia unable to return to Ukraine as they wish.

Strange that we have these two russist propaganda shills here who started to invest the place after the russian unprovoked and illegal invasion of Ukraine.

At least they're here where their efforts are wasted rather than anywhere they can cause damage.

@jon357
One of my friends in Kherson was forced with his wife and son to go to Russia. Not given any opportunity to leave Ukraine other than to Russia. Dead bodies everywhere on the way. Phones searched, luggage searched, interrogations and all things humiliating to people who simply were living their lives until the Russians came. Now they are stuck in Russia. When the hell are Russians going to wake up and realize that this is not how the civilized world operates?

with his wife and son to go to Russia

Some in laws of mine were taken, a couple with kids. They have relatives in russia but couldn't join them because they live too near Ukraine. They were taken a long way away. They want to go back to Ukraine but can't.

It's like the excesses of the Soviet Union, mass deportations.

When the hell are Russians going to wake up and realize that this is not how the civilized world operates?

I don't think they care. They despise the civilised world.

Ukraine was invaded

Since referendum of 11.05.2014 Mariupol is a part of DPR, so it was territory of DPR occupied by Ukraine.

bears no blame for anything it did to repeal the invaders....

This is exactly the process of the transformation of yesterday's Ukrainian citizens into hardline citizens of the Russian Federation, or rather its first step. The exploded substations, transformers, water mains, etc is the first symptom of what is the overall approach. Starting from 2014, Ukraine has shown exactly how sincere it is in wanting to return the breakaway regions. In the case of Crimea this just meant shutting off their supplies of water, food, and energy; but in the case of Donetsk Oblast it also meant constant artillery shelling. As I've said before this is a highly questionable policy for reintegration.

There are different ways toward reunification. There are different contexts. South and North Korea is one situation, and West Germany and East Germany is another. There is Russia's approach and Ukraine's approach.

If I was president of the Ukraine, I would open all possible trade links and remove all migration controls between the people of those territories and Ukraine. I would invest in those territories along all possible vectors to show them who it is that really cares for their well being. In international conferences I would raise first and foremost the humanitarian issues relevant to the local population. In this way, no matter how long Russia occupied these territories - I would know that one day they would return through a popular plebiscite.

Using this same framework of unification; because of how Ukraine had been handling it, these territories will be like Gibraltar or the Falklands. Never wanting anything to do with the Spanish or Argentinians who would play the role of Ukraine here. Blinded by their jealousy of Britain, Spain and Argentina neglected to ever make a serious effort at making reintegration attractive to the locals - instead focusing on strategic and military aspects.

The Russian approach is in contrast much more comprehensive.

The always dependable Anders Åslund has thoughts:

twitter.com/anders_aslund/status/1535879560004239361

money quote: "A barbaric but militarily impotent Russia without other values than medieval violence & without any other economic assets than devaluing raw materials is not likely to persist"

Russia still is hundreds of years behind Europe in social development.... (if anything it's spent most of the last century or so going backwards rather than forwards).....

Maybe Russia listen, so NATO is stooped.

Like Alex Navalny?

Navalny stolen some money. More than once, of course. I know, that dream of any thief is to steal as many as possible and then be elected to parliament to get immunity. from criminal prosecution. ;) But Navalny wasn't so lucky, and their masters decided to use it different way. ;) Without much success. "Navalny underpants" became a meme here, a symbol of stupid propaganda for brainless people.

If we Slavs are lucky, Poland, Serbia and Russia would be in alliance maximally till the end of next year. Plus Hungary and Co. with us.

The cold winter is coming and era of rightful Slavic domination in Europe emerging. Western Europe is too stupid for mantle of responsibility. All deluded imbecile after deluded imbecile.

i wonder ,how stupid person must bee to even consider treating their tweets as facts or valid opinions.

twit about russia being bad and supporting my view -true
info of russia doing good thing and not supporting my view -propaganda

I won't even mention people like Litvinienko and the Skripals

There is a certain sense in this non-remembrance. We are all waiting for the publication of the coroner's inquest on the Litvinenko case and at least some data on the Skripals case other than dumb propaganda and fragments of video footage of two Russians hanging around Salisbury but arriving in town later than Skripal left his house and not physically able to put poison on his doorknob.

All cases involving British intelligence end with dead bodies (I don't believe the Skripals are hidden somewhere alive, more likely buried long ago). But with Ukraine we have, for example, Anatoly Shariy, who is in Spain, alive, and can answer questions about the SBU and their methods of working with his assistants who remained in Ukraine. Or Tatyana Montian, who has been a lawyer for almost 30 years and is aware of all the latest innovations of the Ukrainian system of suppression of dissent, as her last clients until her forced departure abroad were just the opposition activists.
