Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 2

Bratwurst Boy

.....I guess the planned huge investments being made by the EU after the war ends will help Ukraine to modernize alot!

All the destroyed infrastructures and factories etc. will be rebuild at the highest standards...that happened in Germany too and was the foundation for the Wirtschaftswunder in the coming years.

Ukraine won't become a member of the EU sooner than others but they will surely get some favorable trade treaties shoved their way....all that will assure that the refugees will want to come back...they will be needed!

@Korvinus

Ok, I see your businessman-funded gift to Putin, and raise you a billion dollar "government residence", which the president leased for personal use at $39 annually.

"government residence",

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Putin%27s_Palace

youtu.be/YCxDh2rf21E

Putin's analysis of the west: "The ruling elite has broken away from the people", says the unelected Putin while sitting in his gold palace while the rest of Russia is a sh*ithole on fire that nobody but Steven Segal wants to move to. Meanwhile, he's having a gigantic palace to himself constructed that looks ugly as f*uck, and truly emblematic of the terrible taste that the russian elite has, but is also extremely expensive and paid by the russians, most of whom are poor.

It's funny, it seems increasingly to me that all the people complaining about elites living in ivory towers, are themselves the most disconnected people, knowing nothing about the real world, and constructing fantasy representations of the world in their isolated subworlds.

Bobko, but... Yanukovych was pro-Russian and was kicked out of office by Ukrainians and he fled to Russia... lol The Mezhyhirya Residence is now a museum displaying Yanukovych's luxurious lifestyle... lol Are Putin's palaces open to the Russian public? :)))

Can't even be bothered to fake a referendum... pathetic.

@Paulina

Don't know. Putin said he will never step foot in that palace. Maybe because Navalny embarrassed him by revealing it, or maybe because it's not actually his.

No matter how you look at it, Europeans will probably have to start paying a real price for food

Polish farming can feed 120 million people, so the crisis in this area is an opportunity for us to use more of its potential. There's always options. It's like with the gas that russia refused to sell us - we will buy some from different sources, get some on reverse transfer, increase our own extraction and diverisfy energy sources in general, which will only benefit our economy in the long run, and russians won't be able to spend our money on their underwater rocket cruisers. :)

There's always options. As my grandfather, Lord bless his soul, used to say - masz głowę i chuj, to kombinuj. :)

Ukraine is one big corrupt

And russia isn't? I suspect Ukrainian have got more on their minds than nest feathering right now and in any case corruption in this region (including in Poland) is far from rare.

The important thing is that when Ukraine reconstructs itself, they don't just become a manufacturing hub for the big the EU countries and that they actually own the industries themselves. I suspect there will be a lot of U.K. and U.S. involvement, and Polish too, and that it will be a partnership of equals.

but there is a portion that are not trying to assimilate into Polish society

I doubt that assimilation is anyone's first priority at the moment. In fact I'd say that for refugees, maintaining a sense of who you are is far more important. Assimilation is for later if at all; in our connected world, it's becoming less relevant in Europe. I'd say that of the million or so Poles who've moved to the U.K., only a relatively small proportion see assimilation as their goal.

while Ukrainian counteroffensive in Kharkiv area almost reached the russian border

Which when achieved will allow a push for the Donbas.

Polish farming can feed 120 million people

Yes, it's because you have some chernozem. The most fertile soil on earth. Unfortunately most of it is in Ukraine and Russia, which can feed not 120 million people, but the world.

increase our own extraction and diverisfy energy sources in general, which will only benefit our economy in the long run

This is key.

All major European countries with effective energy strategies either already have or are developing nuclear power on a significant scale, as well as developing renewables. Ukraine is well placed for both of these, and of course the civilised world is moving away from buying energy from russia which has of course shown itself to be unreliable.

GefreiterKania
11 May 2022  #1722

Unfortunately most of it is in Ukraine and Russia

Why "unfortunately"? It is very fortunate: Ukraine will, with time, become a bread basket for the EU and a rich country, and russians at least won't starve while being completely isolated by the civilised world. And, who knows, maybe one day somebody smart will rule russia - it's possible, you are mostly mongols but there is also some precious Slavic blood in your veins (not much, but still) and will use this resource as a tool to rebuild a free, democratic and finally civilised Russian* state.

* spelt with a capital "R", because I am not talking here about the current nazi state, but about future Russia that goes back to normalcy and her Slavic roots

the civilised world is moving away from buying energy from russia

Exactly. They wanted to blackmail us but it backfired on them.

jon357
11 May 2022  #1723

Why "unfortunately"? It

Because his team are losing the match.

They wanted to blackmail us but it backfired on them

And people were warning about it. Britain was, Poland was, the U.S. was. And it took a war for them to realise. Nevertheless, it has as you say backfired on them and they can of course look forward to selling to China and India at discount prices. Since nobody else will want more than a few percentage of their supplies from russia of at all.

For domestic household energy, we'll see many more micro projects. The Eindhoven salt thingy seems amazing and if it works as they say it does, it may be a game changer.

GefreiterKania
11 May 2022  #1724

There can be no question - we are Mongols.

:)

I am the very last person on this board that you need to convince about it.

We are the slit-eyed Asians! (...) barbarous Mongol horde

A literary genious, no doubt, and a man of great knowledge and insight!

it may be a game changer

Indeed. But a real game changer would be the Chinese "artificial sun" project. I believe they made significant progress on it recently.

A U.S. military proposal to blast hypersonic weapons out of the sky is entering a new phase.
The program, a "hypersonic defense interceptor" system called Glide Breaker, aims to counteract highly maneuverable weapons zooming through the upper atmosphere at speeds of at least Mach 5.

Now what is Pootin' going to threaten the world with ?

and of course the civilised world is moving away from buying energy from russia which has of course shown itself to be unreliable.

Yesterday in Kiev:

Baerbock: Germany to reduce Russia energy imports 'to zero'

You can't say it more plainly...

the Chinese "artificial sun" project

The fewer of those buggers holding a good hand of cards the better as well. Not much better than the orcs.

You can't say it more plainly

A wise decision. In a few decades, it'll be mini-nuclear STEP tokamaks, wind and hydro. Solar farming too, with cables from the Sahara.

GefreiterKania
11 May 2022  #1728

Now what is Pootin' going to threaten the world with ?

He will threaten that he will no longer sell his gas and oil to nobody. No... wait a minute... :)

Of course you ignore these lines

Shut up. I have a reason to ignore them.

At this point why should Russia be granted even the smallest of wins? After all the atrocities and warcrimes committed at the very heart of Europe this ship has sailed, the tolerance of the West for Putin's rogue regime is all but depleted. Maybe Macron still has a few drops left, but he's not calling the shots here.

Ukraine knows how to read the room and openly declares willingness to take back Donbas and Crimea if Western aid keeps coming. Lend-lease has just been signed and Congress already approved the 40 billion budget. It's unlikely for the Senate to try to oppose it.

Russia has been repeatedly warned not to start this war. Russia failed to comply. Now it is time for Russia to pay the price.

Bratwurst Boy
11 May 2022  #1730

A wise decision.

...which always makes me shake my head about Putin! His invasion of Ukraine will become in time one of the biggest own goals by a leader in history!

He is cutting himself off of one of his most important sources of income....with NATO he only achieved to strengthen the unity of his biggest adversary....once neutrals are changing sides...etc...

Is he really still acting rational???

jon357
11 May 2022  #1731

He will threaten that he will no longer sell his gas and oil to nobody

He can keep the lot. Due to man made climate change we do have to work towards net zero. He can sell to the Chinese and the next step of course is to cut imports from far away and the west's dependence on that region.

GefreiterKania
11 May 2022  #1732

one of the biggest own goals by a leader in history!

Putin knows it; and all Russians with working brain cells know it too.

The rest is propaganda, epic butt-hurt and shattered dreams.

@Bobko "Bottom line: The people called Ukrainians have turned out to be poor custodians of the country called Ukraine" Real bottom line is even if you are right, Russia still has no business entering Ukraine or taking Ukraine land. Its really Fing simple. Get out, and let Ukraine sort out their own problems. I even give you that Crimea is traditionally Russian, but the rest is total BS.

@jon357
It doesnt matter if assimilating is their priority or not. They are guests here. When I first moved here I took Polish language classes and have learned enough Polish to survive without English when I am in less urban settings. Ukraine people, and I have seen it multiple times now, have become very loud when Poles do not understand how they are trying to communicate, threatening in a few instances with store clerks. Pressure from being away from home I understand, but if you are in a country, be considerate and learn some of the language or use a translation app. Simple.

Ukraine has already been told no on NATO membership. So there is no argument there. EU membership is economic and political, if anything Russia should be happy for the application as it would raise political standards, of course those standards would actually be higher than Russian standards and I can see the threat there. Really, this war is Fing nonsense. Putin either has lost his mind, or has some disease effecting his thinking. Nothing about this war makes sense, especially when Russia is losing.

jon357
11 May 2022  #1734

I have seen it multiple times now, have become very loud when Poles do not understand how

I've never seen this in Poland. Nobody needs to assimilate now. I speak Polish well not because of any desire to assimilate, but rather because most people I know don't speak Polish and it does make life easier. Assimilation is not what it used to be in an age when Warsaw is nearer to Doncaster than it is to Szczeciń.

When a huge cohort arrive in one go, assimilation just isn't going to be. Not least because many of those there would not otherwise be expats and are not the travelling kind. Settling down will come later.

EU membership is economic and political

The EU may well not survive this war in its current form. That would not be a bad thing.

Assimilation is for later if at all;

Refugees are not supposed to assimilate. They are supposed to be on the way back home when the shooting stops.

Is he really still acting rational???

As long as NATO and the US see Russia as an enemy and a Russian under every bed, yes.

When a huge cohort arrive in one go, assimilation just isn't going to be

Assimilation mostly happens when people aren't looking. I remember an interview on tv with a Ukrainian woman living in Warsaw a few years ago (about elections there). While she was talking she began to realize that she had no real intention or maybe even desire to move back permanently, it was kind of amazing to see the wheels clicking in her head as she figured it out.

As long as NATO and the US see Russia as an enemy and a Russian under every bed, yes.

The hypocrisy of this statement it off the charts. Russia attacked our neighbour, caused a humanitarian cataclysm and flooded us with 3 million refugees. If that's not a hostile move, I don't know what is.

We provide arms to a country that is defending from russian aggression. That would not happen if ruskies stayed in their fu*cking borders.

Anyway, russia can do sh*it to stop Poland or anyone else from supplying Ukraine. Russia might still terrorise Georgia or Moldavia, but if Ukraine is not afraid of Moscow's hollow threats, than NATO simply laughs at them.
