This is not true. He didn't say that. He said that they were told that there are only occupiers left in the village and that there are no civillians. They were ordered to throw a grenade into every cellar without checking them. But since they were left by their commanders they decided to hide in the abandoned homes, wait till the morning and then decide what to do. In the morning they saw civillians coming out of the cellars.
