An interesting in-depth political analysis presented on a map of Europe...

... did the president of this country tell Putin not to sh*t himself? (red - no, green - yes)

he is stopped to be checked by an officer.

A Polish family is visting the Soviet Union. At the border

Soviet border guard (examining passport): Zavut?

Polish 10 year old girl: ...... uczennica?

(clarification: russian zavut (first? name) sounds like Polish zawód (occuption, uczennica is (female) pupil - (elementary thru high shcool) student)

russian misrule in Mariupol....

a lack of basic utilities, no humanitarian aid and the occupying russo-nazis prioritize changing signs and building monuments to themselves....

to be expected, people who aren't good at running their own countries can't manage running other people's countries either....

WTF do people think Ukraine people are supposed to do? Not try to live a normal life when they can? Crnog is Fing retarded. But its great to see some new housing for Ukraine people since the Russians ruined it in the first place.

mafketis

since the Russians ruined it in the first place

which is why I'm not gonna applaud them... housing and infrastructure are the bare minimum and Ukraine supplied far superior to anything russonazis can....

Is there anything Russians can do as well as Ukrainians?
Also, how do you spot a "russonazi"? Do they wear swastikas?
BTW, you forgot * and SS in "russonazis".

As BBC reports, it will take months to liberate kherson, and mid october is when those open fields will turn into marshlands, only one line of defence has been apparently breached, two more to go and that's not mentioning the 20k ruski troops in kherson itself. it's a different war of attrition that will stretch into summer 2023. Energy shortages, recession in the EU, mass inflation vs the grinding down of ruski logistics, armor and morale in Ukraine. I don't see the sanctions on russia working, too many willing countries willing to participate in parallel imports and shady exports in the globalised economy.

A political, propaganda war that will yield results in battle at its heart.

Unless there is some unpreceded strategic breakthrough by western tech, very plausible, but that would be the first case of wunderwaffe in the modern age.

(the atomic bomb is a debatable point, some argue that truman only dropped the bomb to stop the soviets taking over japan, and usa could have invaded japan successfully without it.)

a great country, that had every chance to be as successful, or perhaps even more successful than China

That's debatable (to say the least). China owes its great success not only to their mentality, discipline (even if it's very often enforced) and work ethics but mostly to the huge investments and technology transfer. In 1991 there was not a snowball's chance in hell of the USA and Western Europe moving all the industrial production to Russia (as it happened in case of China). The memory of the Cold War, when the SU was the mortal enemy of the West, was still too fresh.

@bobko
gorby told a journalist in his dying days, that the invasion of ukraine by putin, as undoing his lifes work. like his glorious ussr he died a sad and broken man, and it will only get worse from russia from now on. you will have only the tears of your glorious past to feed on whilst you contemplate the contemptible fate of your failed imperial state.

When you talk about "us" you mean Russian citizens. But the USSR was a union of many republics and some of them have done very well in the last 30 years - Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia.

Which means the problem wasn't Gorbachev but rather Russia's refusal to reform or adopt a proper market system after he left power. I imagine you will still be fighting over sugar and queuing up for fatty ham in 2050 and some President will still be blaming Gorby or talking about Iraq.

It sure looks that the only model that works is a constitutional republic like the US with iron-fisted enforcement like China. In such a black-and-white system, you have the freedom to be creative and happy but not the freedom to abuse the system. The most flagrant example of system abuse is in that every pos can now claim asylum for the most ridiculous of reasons.

Both Europe and the US are irreversible victims of their own weakness and stupidity. That is why Putin is scary to the Western weasels, not because of dead babies in Ukraine.

We kill them every day by the thousands and life goes on.

why is it that we were the only losers from this process?

because you created the mess in the first place?

he squandered centuries of Russian military and foreign policy achievements

No. Citizens of russia squandered that all on their own.

I'm of the school that says "Adversity doesn't create character, it reveals it."

when russia faced economic adversity in the 1990s it quickly devolved into a gangster hellscape of corruption and violence.... all that was there before, it just hadn't had a chance to reveal itself

I'm very critical of a lot of the western approach to the ex-soviet union but the enduring tragedy of russia is that russians collectively never accept responsibility for things that went wrong, it's always "Oh woe is me! I'm a victim!"

russia will never be a world-class country until russians can say "We really messed up! We have to try to make it right now!"

Putin isn't scary to us in Poland though Rich.

We just think he is a pathetic bully who we need to stand up too because we don't want to go back to living like Russians

And dont look now, but just like I predicted back in March, Visa's for all Russians to the EU are about to become toast. Take away travel and a way out and you have Russians who are not going to be happy about being stuck in Russia.

EU foreign ministers just reached a consensus. This will happen. I think everyone knows it needs to happen to create more pressure within Russia.

Not if Francogermania have their way....

Lets hope they really have reached an agreement.

Hungary, Cyprus, and to an extent Greece are sticking points.

What Germany and France are saying now and were (or more tellingly, weren't) saying is interesting since it shows their take on the likelihood of Ukraine's ultimate victory.

While they would, given the chance, hand over Ukraine, the Baltics and Poland to Putler, fortunately those countries are not Francogermania's to give.

What they don't want is to be seen to back the orcs, only for the orcs to be crushed by a combination of the UK, Poland, Canada, the Nordics and other ex-Soviet states. So, for them to talk about victory and resisting the orcs suggests they're feeling confident.

As for an EU army/combined defence this is of course an extension of the German principle of keeping everything they have for themselves and getting everyone else to pay for anything else that they'd quite like. It's the rambling of a drunken fool.

Fortunately, they are not a powerful bloc within NATO and are excluded from AUKUS and Five Eyes. Even more fortunately the support for Ukraine within Europe has been led by the UK and Poland.

criticized the presence of the hammer and sickle

wha'ts interesting is the failure of post-USSR to provide a base of cultural identification that means anything to most people (the same reason russians are putting up soviet monuments in areas of Ukraine that they've destroyed - modern russian symbols have no emotional weight to them and they have go back to the USSR to find something that resonates)

the flag and symbols of modern russia don't seem to mean anything to most russians.... a very big failure of domestic policy (or a victory of those that view the russian public as cash cows to be milked and slaughtered?)

A couple different Ukrainian sources are reporting that russia has begun an unpublicized mobilization in Moscow and Petrograd...

here's one sample

And at my expense.

Definitely. But you love it. Only at times you whine when you receive too much due bombardment.

any criticism is blasphemy.

Yes, the criticism of Ukrainian struggle in their Holy War is blasphemy. To all decent Poles. And the situation is that most native Poles here are such.

There were also Hitler's personal belongings inside while the Cathedral was being consecrated by the Patriarch, so apparently Hitler's stuff was consecrated too

That's probably where Putler and his orcs get their inspiration.

What sanctions ?
Russia just exported the most oil in any August on record, with Greek tankers handling most of the cargoes

Yeah, but they are giving it away for free 'cause they can't burn oil like that gas.

Can you people even imagine what could happen if nazi Ukraine attacked Poland? If Russia nicely didn`t prevent that scenario? Think of that horror. They could annihilate Poland in a short period of time.
