Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 5

Bobko
11 Apr 2023  #2461

The fall of Russia, on the other hand, will bring consequences still difficult to predict.

Nothing interesting will happen if Russia falls. What? Do you think Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan will move in to reclaim lost territories? Perhaps China will take the far east? Finland, surely, will move to take back Karelia and Poland will reclaim East Prussia?

Won't these countries be afraid of those mighty sanctions that crippled and exploded Russia? Perhaps America will suspend the international rule of law, to allow its friends to feast until they get their full.

No, what will probably happen, after a "Russian collapse", is some new Obama and some new Macron will arrive to "rekindle ties with the friendly Russian people". Because, in the end what is bad for Russia in a conflict such as this, is bad for America and bad for France.

They don't want to set precedents of presidents of great powers facing international tribunals. They don't want to show that a small country can impose its will on a big one through asymmetrical tactics involving novel weapons like drones and improvised explosives. Russia must be punished, but not too harshly - otherwise the entire facade crumbles. The Security Council vetos, the nuclear arsenals which no one else can have, the claim to be able to interpret the will of the global population, etc.

I think you are wrong.

But this guy was right;

The fall of Russia, on the other hand, will bring consequences still difficult to predict.

Correct, Russia will be stuck in a backward time warp.

From RT:

The US is using Ukraine to manufacture components for biological weapons, the commander of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense Forces briefed the State Duma on Tuesday. Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov says the Russian military found ample evidence of this in Donetsk, Lugansk and Kherson.

Smart. Why contaminate things and kill people here if we can do it 5000 miles away?

I am sure there is a reason why the West wants more deaths and destruction in Ukraine instead of Biden sitting down with Putin and Xi to figure out how to end it.

That brings me to my next bar joke...Biden, Putin, and Xi walk into a bar and the barman says ...

One thing missing in all the referendum talk about Crimea is that Ukraine, as the legal holder of Crimea, would be the country conducting the referendum. Not Russia. Ukraine had, and has no intention of holding a referendum, therefore any being made are illegal. Just a little problem to be solved first. China has never held Taiwan within their borders or recognized areas of control, and therefore their claim is mute. These are simple legal issues.

@Bobko
I have brought up the leaked info a few times, no one else has even read the documents. Looks bad, but also looks doctored and certainly a half truth mix at this point.

Hey, Ms. P, I don't read posts by women

That's an obvious, cowardly and pathetic lie :) You always tell this lie when you lose a discussion with me.

don't waste your time just for me.

I never waste it for you. I do it for others. And for my personal satisfaction :)

This is just another example of why Russia must be totally defeated. This is not an isolated event. This is systemic criminal activitiy and just another example of what Russia is at its core. Rotten and unworthy of being treated with respect.

russians... it's a broken society in which pathological dysfunction is normal and normal human instincts are suppressed.... the Tsar, the CCCP, mafia wars and and neo-bandit tsar..... they've never known anything like a normal government.... how can normal people flourish in such an atmosphere?

It looks like this is the "RuSSian culture" nowadays:

twitter.com/JuliaDavisNews/status/1509953159803846656?s=20

'One pundit on Russian TV tried to argue that denazification doesn't consist of ripping heads off.

Lawmaker Alexei Zhuravlyov disagreed: "It's accomplished by shooting or ripping heads off."

Host Olga Skabeeva agreed: "Denazification is usually conducted by knocking heads off."'

RuSSian society seems to be Raskolnikov personified...

@Bratwurst Boy, during World War II at least they were fighting with real evil - Nazis... Nowadays they're the evil ones. Something went seriously wrong with their heads... Of course it's not like they were perfectly normal before, but now they really seem to have some screw loose in their heads...

Young Polish teenagers, learning about ww2 tend to take it via video games or local fistfights.

Seems like Russian frustrations of the past and suppressed present issues that weren't fixed or "avenged" are taken out in Ukraine.

It's horrible

mafketis

ussian frustrations of the past and suppressed present issues

It's externalized self-loathing... russians really don't like themselves any more than anyone else does... this builds up into massive amounts of inner violent rage....

and it comes out.... with stuff like the beheading video (being celebrated on russian telegram and no doubt the usual suspects here find it to be very.... stimulating).

Powers? Don't delude yourself, Russia has reduced itself to a position of muzhik, always serving the current master of Asia.

It's not easy to fall out of love, but I have to admit that with every atrocity, with every war crime, the longer this war lasts the more reality check it becomes for me. :-/ There is something in what Paulina says... something wrong seems to have happened to Russians. This just doesn't make sense... maybe it made some sense in the beginning but continuing this monstrosity when it became obvious that there will be no quick end to this war is simply nonsensical... and it gets more cruel with time (I'm afraid we haven't seen everything yet).

Would a perfect referendum conducted in 2013 in Crimea result in No?

mafketis
12 Apr 2023  #2483

Of course, as I heard from a Ukrainian with contacts there, nobody who had adjusted to capitalism had any problem with being in Ukraine... neither did the Tatars (oldest inhabitants) the only ones who might have been tempted were the welfare leeches who thought they could get bigger handouts from russia....

Are you claiming that a majority of Crimeans in 2013 were welfare leeches?

Bobko

something wrong seems to have happened to Russians. This just doesn't make sense...

Oh... the horror! Orcs brutalizing enemy bodies - what could be more despicable?

How about a group of Marines urinating on Taliban corpses, and accompanying the act with jolly riffs such as: "Have a great day, buddy!" and "Golden like a shower!"

Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_of_U.S._Marines_urinating_on_Taliban_fighters#:~:text=a%20war%20crime.-,Effects%20of%20the%20video,on%20bodies%20in%20the%20video.

I forget myself - this forum does not tolerate whataboutism. Then let's look at what was happening last year, when this video was made.

Link: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torture_of_Russian_soldiers_in_Mala_Rohan

In this wonderful incident from last year, Ukrainian soldiers entertained themselves by shooting the legs of Russian soldiers, while applying plastic bags to their heads.

Other colorful reports described the castration of a group of Russian POWs by an especially chivalrous AFU soldier.

How's that, Knights of PF? It's okay to play with orcs, but not ok when the boot is on the other foot?

Best to stay quiet about such things, unless you are speaking out for the end of this conflict in general.

Nonetheless, my two cents:

1) Idiots did this. The link above, re: the US Marines, describes how their little shower party resulted in this:

The video caused outrage in Afghanistan, the Middle East and across the world.[30][31] An Afghan soldier who shot dead four French troops in Afghanistan and wounded another eight seriously in a fragging incident said that he did it because of the American Marines who urinated on bodies in the video.[32

2) Besides making work more difficult for other Russian servicemen, these idiots have given the Ukrainians a morale boost. I'm sure they felt it would have a chilling effect, but in reality the effect is opposite.

3) The longer this war goes on, the more creative these macabre displays will become: from both sides.

Hey, Bobko, what do you think?

There's some truth to the description of Crimeans as "welfare dependent". Under Ukrainian administration it was one of the largest net recipients of transfers from the central budget. Now under Russian administration the picture is the same. However, the reasons are complex:

1) It's largely a desert peninsula

2) It's population is on the whole older than the average population of RU or UA

3) For decades it was the military that acted as the largest employer

4) Independent Ukraine could not afford to invest anything into Crimea that would make it more competitive with Bulgaria and Turkey as a vacation destination.

5) After the war, the main source of income for locals - tourism - dried up significantly through various Ukrainian bans (first instance when Crimeans experienced the love of their former compatriots).

6) Loving Kiev, next decided to cut the supply of water to the peninsula, wiping out the agricultural sector which also acted as an important source of employment.

7) Exports from Crimea (its famous for its wines, as well as having certain valuable industrial exports), have similarly shrunk through sanctions.

Bottom line: Crimeans never really got a fair shot at supporting themselves. If there were any people that were pro-Ukrainian in their outlook during the referendum, then now they are almost certainly vehemently anti-Ukrainian.

The party in Ukrainian politics that insisted on a "kind" approach to the Crimeans in hopes of one day reintegrating them, lost out to the hawks that wanted to punish the Crimeans by making them "squeeze water out of rocks". Now Crimeans know that the only thing to expect from Kiev is poverty and repressions.

Not to mention atrocities committed by the Red Army in Hungary'56 and Czechoslovak Republic'68. I'm curious when will US invade a European state to overthrow the government it does not approve of.

State media propaganda egging them on. The government being in denial of everything and not punishing them and, in result, encouraging them even more. Can't you really see the difference?

How about a group of Marines urinating on Taliban corpses,

Sorry, Bobko, but as disrespectful that was, castrating and cutting POWs' heads off while they're still alive is just so much worse. And in the US that incident was met with condemnation, investigation and punishment. And in RuSSia? Denial, no investigation, no punishment and no condemnation.

In this wonderful incident from last year, Ukrainian soldiers entertained themselves by shooting the legs of Russian soldiers

I remember that video when it came out and I wrote that if it was really Ukrainians that did it, they should not have done that.

Also, from your Wiki link:

"Oleksiy Arestovych, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that the unlawful treatment of prisoners qualifies as a war crime and should be punished. He also stated that an investigation will be conducted, and the inadmissibility of such actions would be reiterated to defense forces personnel.

Iryna Venediktova, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine at the time, said that investigations and prosecutions would be carried out if the evidence were strong enough."

Other colorful reports described the castration of a group of Russian POWs by an especially chivalrous AFU soldier.

I haven't heard about this one. I only know that there's a video of RuSSian soldiers castrating an Ukrainian POW.
