There's been enough info published about this for me to form an opinion. As for proof, the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Putin and RuSSia's commissioner for children's rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, and it's going to be the prosecutors job to provide evidence.

A recent Russian opinion poll indicates that the number of Russians who fully support the war in Ukraine has almost halved since February 2023 and that more Russians support a withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine than do not.

Notably the same poll (which is the last somewhat independent poll in Russia) reported huge support for the war only a few months ago..

It could be a pretty smart move for Putin not to run in these upcoming elections.

If the goal is to annex some juicy pieces of land from Ukraine - a new person might have an easier time talking to the West. The West has more or less talked itself into a corner, regarding opening negotiations with Putin.

Now, even when everyone understands a deal is necessary - all the cowards in the West are loath to be seen as reengaging with Putin.

A new president in Russia - would be able to say - "Look, I want this war over - but I need something to be able to sell it to my population. Put yourself in my shoes." As a more neutral character than the odious Putin, this new president could do deals with the West.

Then, after being well rested, Vladimir Vladimirovich can come back in 2030 - when all these nasty Sunaks and Bidens will be ancient history.

I have been to Russia multiple times. You are either blind man or working for the ministry of propaganda. Russia is a disaster of a country. It is a country of lies and thieves. An embarassment of wasted riches.

The most corrupt places are usually the ones with the most laws. Russia, USA, EU are top three law makers. The problem with the discussion here is largely on the side of those of us who would like to see Russia lose. Too many are all emotional about Ukraine, and their far left agenda. Not enough are actually looking into facts of why we are where we are. Ukraine is no innocent actor, and neither is the EU. Little Vlad makes a valid argument that the Minsk accords were never held to, and that Ukraine never intended to honor them. Merkel admitted this publicly. This conversation would be a lot more interesting if everyone was looking at all the facts for both sides.
