Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 8

Maybe it's only my Polish paranoia but I don't consider it a totally unlikely scenario

No, it's you Russophilia combined with Ukrainephobia

@Torq
A very interesting article here

businessinsider.com/ukraines-real-power-broker-yermak-zelensky-russia-war-biden-2023-12?IR=T

I have been saying for months now, that the lack of a real full mobilization does not fit with the speeches Z is giving or the words he is feeding the US congress. The counter offensive is a complete failure by any measure. The failure to do as they were told by the US and NATO shows Z simply cannot be trusted in any way. Poland and the rest of the EU have about 6 years time to prepare for any other Russian agression. The US on the other hand might only have a year to prepare for the war in Taiwan, and that is definitely a strategic position that needs to be defended. Especially when Xi told sleepy Joe to his face while in San Francisco, that China would reunite with Taiwan and there was no one that would stop them.

No, it's you Russophilia

This I shall not deny...

combined with Ukrainephobia

... whilst this I will deny vehemently.

UPAphobia - yes, Banderophobia - of course, Naziphobia - indeed, but Ukrainophobia - definitely not.

@PolAm

That's right. There are difficult times ahead and difficult choices will have to be made regarding resources, alliances and force allocation. How it will all end... only God knows.

A country that is allegedly fighting for its very survival not even conducting proper mobilisation is, frankly, ridiculous.

....I would rather say that we had no war for a loooooooooong time!

Earlier generations had much more experience....we are back to bloody newbie-status....I fear Germany would not look better in a real true hot war, so I refrain from judging Ukraine!

When Russia really starts sh'it with the Baltikum and later us we will be grateful for all tips and hints Ukrainians can give us! We will rely on their hard earned experience...

I'm not even sure Germany could conduct a reasonable efficient mobilisation when we would want to....sounds bad, I know!

Today marks 666th day of war. Do you expect any calamities, like someone prominent dying?

666th

I understand that from today the road from Moscow to Kiev is called Route 666.

Good one Alien. Will it be called Route 777 tomorrow?

I am not sold on the idea that Russia will try anything with the Baltics or anyone else. In six years, the EU will be very well armed, and military numbers will be much higher. Whoever comes after little Vlad could be worse than him, but I dont see anyone wanting to risk what is remaining of this generation of young Russian men or the next generation. There will be no restored Soviet Union or anything like it.

The Ukrainians have so far put our weapons to good use and besides, even if the Russian capture them, they lack the knowledge to maintain them

You are a curious fruit.

Ukraine - that made the Antonov An-225 and the USSR's ballistic missiles, but now has to order an armored personnel carrier from abroad - has better engineers than Russia?

Ukraine is a totally deindustrialized and degenerate shadow of itself.

Usually, I'm the guy that says that Russia is a totally deindustrialized and degenerate shadow of itself, but in comparison to Ukraine we still look very healthy indeed.

businessinsider.com/ukraines-real-power-broker-yermak-zelensky-russia-war-biden-2023-12?IR=T

The assault on brotherly Ukraine is merciless, in the Western press. My heart breaks, for my wayward brothers that put their faith in the perfidious West.

Even as a Russian, I find the abruptness of the abandonment exceedingly cruel.

Though this is probably the punishment for worshipping at the altar of foreign gods.

but in comparison to Ukraine we still look very healthy indeed.

Depends.....in a democratic country where politicians need to listen to the public, and a free press eager to gain the clicks with lotsa dramatic headlines about the bad shape of about everything....it's clear who "looks" better!

I can't forget Honecker during the last parade celebrating the anniversary of the GDR....you could "see" only happy people, an enthusiastic waving crowd....modern, gleaming military technic....the country "looked" wonderful, healthy, happy...you name it....in the summer of 1989!

....just saying....

PS: Just in case someone doesn't know...no, the GDR was NOT healthy, actually quite sick and depressed with a struggling/failing economy...and for sure no happy people...

PPS: Not to mention that Ukraine is invaded and has big parts of it's territory, including industry, invaded, occupied and destroyed...
That comparison is not really fair!

enthusiastic waving crowd....gleaming military....the country "looked" wonderful, healthy, happy...

I invite you to watch Zelensky's national TV marathon, which has been running on all channels non-stop since March last year.

Only government-approved news content can be shown.

On TV, the Ukrainians are advancing every day, and the torrent of support from the West grows stronger by the day.

Russians are shocked and embarrassed at how Ukraine has leapfrogged us in the information war space. Even Putin has not such masterful stage management as Zelensky does. The former experience as an entertainer gives the latter an undeniable advantage.

It is a country invaded....I'm sure there now "war-rules" apply....I guess it would be the same in Germany if it would come to that!

(Boy I so don't want to experience that!!!)

Ukraine, mainly Z, should have made a deal by now.

UNITED NATIONS, December 16. /TASS/. Ukraine has missed the opportunity to ink a favorable peace agreement, so now any potential deal will reflect its capitulation, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said.

Earlier, Polyansky said that the Zelensky regime was in agony and that all his associates had unleashed a fight for power. According to the diplomat, the United States had plans to deny aid t

Looks like Slovakia will veto Ukraine's (potential) NATO accession...

Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico has spoken against Ukraine's NATO membership, suggesting that Kyiv's accession to the Alliance would lead to the Third World War.

.....imagine Ukraine had kept it's nukes.....what a failure by the West to convince them to give them up! There would be no war now....

Torq
21 Dec 2023  #1280

There would be no war now...

... or the war would be even worse. India and Pakistan or India and China were at war, despite all of them having nuclear weapons.

Somehow I wouldn't feel very comfortable if Ukrainian turbopoliticians, with portraits of Bandera hanging in their offices, had atomic bombs at their disposal.

Velund
21 Dec 2023  #1281

There would be no war now....

Ask Kania - he know banderites enough - what would be if bandera worshippers had nukes that is on their last years before mandatory rebuild (due to natural decay of components)?

Even as a Russian, I find the abruptness of the abandonment exceedingly cruel.

They got bored or exhausted or both - after over half a million men had died. Bravo...a-holes...So now how much fun was calling me "a surrender boy"?

They remind me of the American sanctuary morons who finally discovered the difference between saying meaningless crap and dealing with it.

Just ask how much or how many and watch the occupants of High Moral Ground run into shadows - just like cockroaches when you turn the lights on in a ghetto kitchen.

Looks like Slovakia will veto Ukraine's (potential) NATO accession...

Why Slovakia alone, not Poland? What happened to that brotherly love and solidarity with Ukraine? More is better, right?

Somehow I wouldn't feel very comfortable

Thing is....they gave them up because of western promises to safeguard them instead in their time of need.....when we let them down now, that would be truly betrayal....I can't seem to get over it!

It's actually very simple. Before the first Russian was shot and killed, the question to ponder and answer was: What is the probability that Russia will lose this war?

The time to ask was in Jan 2022. The second oppo was when D and L joined the RF and the RF Consitution was revised to that effect.

Again: What is the probability that Russia will say oops and return both to Z?

Zero and zero. Duh!

Bobko
21 Dec 2023  #1288

Thing is....they gave them up

Why is everyone crying about Ukraine?

Kazakhstan and Belarus had similar amounts of nukes - no one cries for them?

The fact is:

1) Kiev never had control over the nukes. The necessary means to launch them were all centered on Moscow.

2) No one in their right mind would allow Kiev to keep those nukes.

3) Kiev's budget would burst at the cost of maintaining a strategic nuclear deterrent

4) If that didn't bust the budget, the costs of upgrading and developing replacements certainly would.

Bratwurst Boy
21 Dec 2023  #1289

1) Kiev never had control over the nukes

Still....

....When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, Ukraine had the world's third largest nuclear arsenal on its territory. When Ukrainian-Russian negotiations on removing these weapons from Ukraine appeared to break down in September 1993, the U.S. government engaged in a trilateral process with Ukraine and Russia. The result was the Trilateral Statement, signed in January 1994, under which Ukraine agreed to transfer the nuclear warheads to Russia for elimination. In return, Ukraine received security assurances from the United States, Russia and Britain; ....

You promised "not an inch to the East" as well. The only difference - with Ukraine it was written on paper as a legally non-binding memorandum.
