That's the problem with dictatorships.... putain has put russia in the position where either winning or losing is about equally catastrophic for russia... The difference is: it was a war torn region. There were wars for 10 years. US invaded, bombed Yugoslavia for like half a year and reached a settlement that now lasts for decades. It was a pretty obvious case of stopping an internecine European war.

In Ukraine there was no war until Russia invaded in 2014.
