Whataboutism is practiced in courtrooms everywhere. It's commonly known as legal precedence.

Must be especially annoying, when it's an impoverished and violent person that's decided to act arrogantly.

The problem with russian whataboutery is that it's retarded.... comparing the holodomor and other Soviet oppression to the lynching of African Americans. The difference is that russians/soviets were and are indifferent to things like the holodomor or the gulag while most Americans felt a deep sense of guilt over lynchings and the like and did what they could to stop them.

The US owned up shooting and expressed regret (and paid compensation).

So when the US screws up it often (not always or enough but often) acknowledges it and tries to rectify the situation while russian screwups are denied forever which means russian society can't really.... get better.

I think you often forget Maf, that the Lord has created us equal.

I'm agnostic.... and humans may be alike in inherent dignity.... but human societies are absolutely not and US society is superior to russian society, not least because of its ability to recognize mistakes and try to rectify them.

Compare with this (I know there are some factual errors here and there but the overall tenor is correct: russia has everything it needs to be rich but has never been rich because it's always been plagued by extractive elites who always choose to enrich themselves at the cost of the rest of society and because it always opts for tight central control (stifling regional innovation) and the suppression of competition.

While the US has had some extractive elites (and is currently burdened by them) it's usually made room for local control of things like education and allows competition. The result - more people want to live in the US than in russia....
