Ukraine after the war is to become a demilitarized zone. How do the russians imagine that. Who will control it?

That proposal, envisions a 30-40KM buffer zone along the current front line. Not turning the entirety of the country into a DMZ (which is actually what we want, but are unlikely to get).

A line 30-40KM wide, would mean we wouldn't be able to shell each other with artillery very effectively.

These 30-40KM would be occupied by EU soldiers, whose job would be to ensure that neither side violates the ceasefire.

After the hostilities in 2014, we had European observers sitting between us and the Ukrainians. They failed miserably at doing their job, because Ukraine continued shelling Russian controlled territories throughout the entire period of time leading up to the 2022 invasion.

On several occasions, we even caught the "observers" using their UAVs to scout our lines on behalf of the Ukrainians.

Personally, I think both sides would ignore whatever Europeans are sitting in the middle, in the same way that Israel right now ignores all the UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon and just continues with its job. All those Austrians, Irish, and others are sitting scared inside their fortified bases - absolutely powerless to stop the Israelis.

Let's take a look at what Germany's Spiegel writes about the state of the German Armed Forces:

1) The commander of the 10th Tank Division reported to his superiors that during an exercise with 18 Puma infantry fighting vehicles, all 18 of them broke down.

2) The Battle Group's leadership capabilities "in association with our multinational partners are limited, primarily due to the lack of modern and interoperable radio equipment." In other words, Germany's military continues to be reliant on analog radios, communications that can be easily intercepted.

3) Of the various helicopter models belonging to the navy, just 30 percent at most were available in mid-November, as were a third of the military's ancient Tornado fighter jets and just over half of its Marder infantry fighting vehicles. Only half of the CH-53 heavy transport helicopters, also ancient, are operational. Just a shade more than half of the Bundeswehr's Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns are available, two thirds of its frigates and half of its submarines.

4) Out of the German Ground Forces' 3 divisions... one is only planned to be operational by 2026, whereas the existing 2 are judged to be only 20% capable.

This is the richest country in Europe, that possessed the largest Western army in Europe as recently as 1991. The size of Germany's army is the size the Ukrainians or Russians use to anchor a small village's fortifications. How the hell will they enforce a peace between Ukraine and Russia?

Do you guys understand what is written above??? Germany has two active divisions and both are at best at 20% capability.

This is the 1st Panzerdivision (based at Oldenburg), and the 10th Panzerdivision (based at Veitshöchheim).

On paper, the 1st is supposed to have 19,100 servicemen on the rosters. The 10th has a nominal strength of 12,500.

These two divisions, are somehow at 20% capability.

Total expenditure on defense is expected to amount to approximately 51.95 billion euros. However, investments from the one-off special fund for the Bundeswehr amounting to 100 billion euros are not taken into account.

Of course it takes abit time....a few years.....but additionally interesting could be the fact that Mr. Pistorius is talked about to supplant at last the extremely unpopular Mr. Scholz as the next leader of the SPD....as Pistorius is now acting Defense Minister and responsible for all things Bundeswehr and it's actual very costly modernization!

One could say it's to much money for the preparation for a war in Ukraine, but it's also the victory of Donald Trump in the US which makes it clear our good 'ol cheap times have ended for good.

So....maybe in 5 years or so.....we could help to do some peace-keeping in Ukraine, who knows!
