There are many retired farmers who grow food just for fun to give away to the free food pantries.
For an example I personally helped a farmer plant potato's and squash last spring.
We paid for the costs of doing it out of our pockets.
Last fall we donated over 15 tons of potato's and 20 tons of squash to the free food pantries which supplied about 20% of our State's poverty.

What a great feeling.
Other farmers donated tons of apples, carrots, cabbage, beans, and all kinds of fresh vegetables and fruits.
