also the offer by Micheal Roth's 'anouncement' was issued on Ocotber 21 when there was still enough respirators in Poland and the comments by Polish doctors come now after huge jumps in the number of new covid patients


on October 21 there were 10 000 new cases of covid in Poland as opposed to 25 000 yesterday - Czechs had it worse back then (about 15 thousands of new cases on October 21 with the population of about a third of Poland)

Nowy Sacz and Nowy Targ were Red Zones in August. Lots of people infected, but still the big wedding parties continued on. While people are definitely getting sick in Warsaw and Krakow, its the young who are recovering and the old that are dying. Too bad the forum was sterilized of all the numbers updates. PiS really has no way to come out of this whole now. Everyone see's them as incompetent now. The idea that more partial lockdown measures will do anything is laughable. The demonstrations wont stop and an attempt at a total lock down will blow the lid off the country. Moronwiecki and the boys need to beg people to stop and start caving in to demands. Duda has a chance here to seize the day. He is a dead end President. Fire all the Ministers standing in the way of peace and health, make a name for himself and he could be remembered as a hero, but even he cant see that path is in front of him.

Sobering news from Denmark. For those who haven't heard, they've found a mutation of Covid in their farmed mink population which has been transmitted to a small number of humans. As a result they're slaughtering the entire mink population. Apparently they're the world's biggest producers of mink fur, so that's a major blow to their economy and to their farmers' income. More serious though, is the fact that if there's a transmittable mutation in one species of animal, then it may well appear in others. The implications of that are quite overwhelming. At the moment, the main concern is the impact this new strain will have on the effectiveness of any vaccine.

JK's cat would have done better than his master and the other donkey's in charge. Over night in Krakow and a few other cities I am watching more than 40 dining establishments up for sale. Walking through the Galleria Kazimierz yesterday, it was a fire sale with every store selling things at 50% off. PiS disastrous handling of COVID will now likely destroy the economy to a point where many more will not recover than from the first wave.

Well, I suppose, how many restaurants does the world need? The problem is the jobs lost as a result. They need to be filled in some way.

More outbreaks among the mink population. It seems that six countries have covid in the mink population, Denmark of course and also the good old USA, Spain,Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden. Btw, the Danish variant is called 'cluster 5' and since June , 214 human cases of Covid-19 have been identified in Denmark with SARS-CoV-2 variants associated with farmed minks. It's a good question Johnny. I don't know what I would have done differently in the first lockdown - probably shouldn't have happened and only the vulnerable should have been locked down.

At the moment our neighbors in Czech, Romania and Hungary have worse or very similar results, so it's not all the fault of PiS.

What PiS could have done much better is to use the summer to prepare for this wave - more ventilators, more ambulances, train as many new nurses as drivers as possible, ensure we have as much drugs as we can afford. They did none of that and wasted the time on politics and holidays. The abortion thing was a huge unnecessary distraction and has divided the country even more and probably spread the virus more.

The biggest disaster is their economic mismanagement - Poland will probably be the hardest hit economically of the big European countries. It will take are 3-4 years to recover.

How is continent wide depression not all but inevitable? I'm not so sure the degree of depression is going to be that differentiated...


Just accept that Greta and Klaus Schwab know best? You don't need to be able to travel from Poland to Ireland in a few hours? You don't need to eat out. How much are you wiling to let them take away from you?

Simple. PiS had area's like Nowy Sacz and Nowy Targ red zoned in the beginning of August. Infections were rising in the beginning of august and the majority were coming from weddings. A grade school student could have watched the math and predicted this.

I am not a scientist and was wrong about the heat completely killing it off. Not sure if I made that comment early on or later. No matter. There is no stopping this thing, only preparing for it. PiS failed to prepare. Now there are no more hospital beds, and the country is out of oxygen. This is the definition of failure. Predictable failure.

Now, PiS is losing its allies. Groups are leaving them. One described them as a Zombie. They are dead, they just dont know it yet so they keep killing.

Like the opposition PolamKrakow you have no alternate solutions apart from attacking PiS. Either you support a lockdown, or you support the hospital system being overwhelmed. Choose.

Well, no, I don't need to of course, but naturally most of us like to, from time to time, anyway. I do genuinely think though that there is a great deal more of everything in the world than there was thirty years ago, but a lot of it is quite mediocre and not really worth having. Just look at the state of once great television like the BBC and the rubbishy stuff it produces these days compared to the classic dramas of yesteryear. The world and his wife have dumbed down degrees in useless subjects. They consider themselves educated but a lot of them can't even spell or construct a sentence properly - I won't go on but, you get my drift.


You're right there. Even the EU has said that it will be 2023 before we see any recovery across the region.

I'd have rather chosen strong measures when it was clear where the problems were. Weddings, funerals, parties and education. PiS were politically powerless, as whatever they did was going to cause problems, and they simply didn't have the political strength or will to make the hard decisions. Now we're paying the price for their indecision when it mattered.

Mind you, I have no issues with a further lockdown, as long as it's combined with a clear message that 500+ and the 13th/14th pension payments are dead.

I support taking the time from June until now to prepare for the second wave. To finance hospitals, import equipment, oxygen and all the other items needed to save lives, even pitiful PiS supporters lives. But of course PiS came out and said they killed the virus and its all good again. So they couldn't do what the rest of the modern world was doing. They spent money on BS projects and ignored rising numbers in specific areas and did nothing.

Other than that, I support letting it run its course, its too late to stop it now. I do not support another lockdown. The virus is killing less than 1% of the people infected and about 1% of those in hospital. Now that Poland has reached the point of no return on infections, there is no other option but to let it run its course. If old people die, so be it, they should stay inside if they want to live.

Young people are not dying they are recovering, they do not fear it or PiS any more, and this is why a lockdown will not be observed, and will be useless. There are not enough jail cells. PiS knows this now, thats why there is no lockdown now.

As Poland heads north with "cases" sitting at 16th in several data reporting sites and 27th in mortality as a base to work to. Attempting to track neighbouring countries as decent metric and we have been packed together in new case increases, but Poland seems to have decided to storm ahead in the case race. Poland is not part of Euromomo's tracking and I am struggling to pick data up. I assume Poland is testing like there is no tomorrow, so I am trying to work out if the new cases are positive PCR's or actual new infections, is there a resource for daily testing rates and if these are based on the PCR result or have these folk presented into illness?



Reading the Polish press the "record new cases" headlines indicate a massive increase in testing, but where can one find some data on testing, results, ICU, hospital admissions etc, it just seems useful information to help track it all, I know one chap here got told to stop posting some of this stuff daily (a great pity) I had heard the Polish gov where using a young mans data collection he does as a pass time project.......

If you go to his feed you need to set it to 'tweets & replies'. He also has a pretty clear eyed panic free view (which is what sticking to the numbers does). He tweets some other stuff in Polish about it but there's always google translate....

AFAICT official figures don't distinguish between active infections and those people who are over it but who still show up as positive (like the British guys stuck in Italy for a longtime).

They also don't give any real information on what the comorbidities are that people have and they no longer release age-sex-place information.

Thanking you Mafketis. Not a twitter person, but can see that data as a non twit, so will keep an eye on those. Perhaps my eye on the UK and the fear media and how that impacts opinion and perceptions, then see this creeping more and more (as I see it) into the Polish press, maybe its just me. However the true source of actual data in which to form an understanding away from the narrative is proving a challenge. My wife is Polish and we ended up in Poland after a US tour we both work on was cancelled half way through and Warsaw was a flight available from JFK, so..... My focus has been on the UK and developments there, but now Poland has now impacted, so just trying to get a picture away from the media.

So here`s another one about PiS rejecting German help while Poles are dying. Not only of covid - they are dying of other diseases which aren`t treated coz only covid matters now.

A Scottish Socialist arguing for austerity and welfare cuts. What has the world come too? ;) I would support 500+ being means tested and a job furlough scheme being introduced like in U.K and Australia.

I don't see the sense in stopping 500 plus - in fact many families would be in deep **** without it.

The pensioners payments could be cut.

But for me the starting point is more simple - while we have lockdown any posel or minister gets krajowy minimum, they can't shut down everyone else's business and expect no pain themselves. Any public servant who is not a medic or other front line person gets a 20 percent temp pay cut until this is over. That would focus people's minds on solutions other than shutting down
