Coronavirus in Poland

kondzior

.I understand that only 70% of the population need be vaccinated to have an effect on the virus so no problem.

Just the idea of taking a vaccine that's 95% safe to protect me from a virus that's 99.99% safe is beyond retarded.

Brilliant. Just like wearing a mask when the nearest human is a mile away or when alone in your own car.

@kondzior
Not sure what the meaning of your message is....are you saying the virus is 99.99% safe..?

Novichok
10 Dec 2020  #3934

Let me intrude....The virus kills .01% of those who get it. 5% of those who got vaccinated will get sick. Not the same thing but an interesting way of looking at this bloody mess. That's how I see it.

Best cure for Corona? Just turn off your TV.

That is so true. I switched off my TV back in April and haven't switched it back on.

No, really you are Roz.

Boy did Trump lay into them this morning.
He said, (and I am paraphrasing), "Get that f-ing vaccine out there faster !"

He said, (and I am paraphrasing), "Get that f-ing vaccine out there faster !"

...and again revealed that he is powerless. If I could talk to him, I would ask: Mr. President, why did you say THAT?

johnny reb

Trump would answer, "Simple Richard, so they couldn't blame me for letting 3,000 people a day die because the vaccine was being held up."

It's a start but not impressive and at that rate it will take 4 years to vaccinate everyone

But that is assuming that everyone can or will want it done which fairly obviously isn't the case. The important thing in my opinion is that once it gets carried out to those who really need it in hospitals and care homes over Jan and Feb, (Although of course that depends when in January it gets underway) then it's made available to other groups who want or need it in the Spring.

As this happens of course the restrictions should be gradually lifted and by the summer the only advice that should really remain is regular handwashing. I cautiously accept masks and social distances as a temporary measure in the current circumstances but if this vaccine is as effective as we are told it is we have to be able to trust it as things get back to normal.

Chris Shrew I see the govt now saying 3m a month which is more like it. If the vaccine works then all the energy of the state showily be focused on delivering it asap then people can get back to working and studying again

delphiandomine

If the vaccine works

From all the scientific literature out there, it seems very clear that even a single dose is enough to significantly reduce the impact from it.

Poland would do incredibly well to get rid of the stupid need for an interview with a doctor before vaccinations too. It should be on self-declaration, just like in the UK and US. I got the flu vaccination a couple of months ago, and it was 20 minutes wasted on bureaucracy, 5 minutes on being vaccinated.

kondzior

people can get back to working and studying again

Functionally getting the vaccine doesn't do anything for you since the general population won't be vaccinated enough until probably fall of 2021 so all the mask requirements/closings/etc will remain in place. There's just not a lot of incentive to be first in line, even more so if you're not in an at risk group.

IF, after getting the vaccine, I can stop wearing mask completely, in shops, buses, everywhere; and I can go to shops, post offices, etc, after 10am, then I MAY reconsider.

A woman in Peru became paralyzed from the waist down after she was injected with the Chinese vaccine.

Why does it have to take until fall ? It can be done much more quickly with proper efforts to fix the constraints

Well, its the biological war out there. It may be vaccine or somebody sabotaged vaccine. But in any case people needs to suffer and die in biological war.

When a vaccine is 95 percent effective, everyone who gets it assumes they are in the 95 percent.
No one thinks they are in the 5 percent, but 5 out of every 100 people are. :-o

delphiandomine
13 Dec 2020  #3953

From the trials, it's clear that even if you're in the 5%, the illness is likely to be considerably less severe than if you weren't vaccinated.

Why does it have to take until fall ?

It's a form of bribery. If you cut doctors out of the loop, they may not agree to use their clinics in the first place.

For me, it's completely insane that pharmacists can't be trained to administer injections. The UK is able to train qualified medical workers to inject people with a half day course FFS :/

They are giving it to humans while they haven't given it to mice.

As this chart shows it takes years to properly develop a vaccine.

From the trials, it's clear

Do you have any sources for that ?
Please direct me to them as I haven't seen them yet ?
I knew they said that about the flu vaccine but I don't know how they could confirm that yet with the Covid vaccine.

The reason I question you delf is because of so many unknowns yet.
I do know that among the unknowns are to what extent does the vaccine prevent infection vs. simply preventing clinical illness ?
Can a vaccinated person who becomes infected, but not sick, transmit the virus to someone else ?
Another unknown: How long will the protective effect of the vaccine last ?

delphiandomine
13 Dec 2020  #3956

As this chart shows it takes years to properly develop a vaccine.

Because they don't have the promise of billions of dollars in guaranteed sales. If every vaccine had the financial backing that this one does, they would be developed far quicker.

Johnny - the US FDA announced it a few days ago: nbcnews.com/health/health-news/fda-pfizer-s-covid-19-vaccine-safe-effective-after-one-n1250337

Your FDA is pretty reliable - I'd trust them.

If the govt can make laws to close pubs then they can make laws to open clinics and requisition them if needed.

Failing that then do it in vaccine lorries like the rabies ones we used to have. In the US they are doing them in Walmart.

If the public health system can only do it by autumn that is a gap that the market will fill - maybe it won't just be abortions that people travel to Czech for

delphiandomine
13 Dec 2020  #3958

Failing that then do it in vaccine lorries

It goes back to organisation. All they need to do is demand self declaration that you're healthy and voila, jab and go. But as you need to be examined by a doctor first, it's a tremendous bottleneck.

The UK and US will be way ahead of Europe because they understand that giving an injection doesn't require anything other than a signature and a nurse.

My question was to your following claim delf.

From the trials, it's clear that if you're in the 5%, the illness is likely to be considerably less severe than if you weren't vaccinated.

Direct me to your source on that claim as that is news to me.

Johnny - the US FDA announced it a few days ago:

Nope, you are wrong on that claim too..

Pfizer's chief executive has said that it could have 30 to 40 million doses of the vaccine before the end of the year, enough for 15 to 20 million people to get an initial shot and a booster three weeks later.

Published six days ago.

nytimes.com/live/2020/pfizer-covid-19-vaccine

Your source delf said the following.

nbcnews.com/health/health-news/fda-pfizer-s-covid-19-vaccine-safe-effective-after-one-n1250337

It stated in big bold letters right at the top of the page, "Experts are happy about the early protection, but still stress the importance of getting both doses."

Now regarding your other original claim that you so cleverly side stepped with a re-direct.

From the trials, it's clear even if you're in the 5%, the illness is likely to be considerably less severe than if you weren't vaccinated.

Sources please......

Good luck with explaining something to Delphy. It's about as effective as telling Indians to p00 in a loo, or Chinamen to stop eating disgusting sh!t in order to stop spreading viruses. They aren't learning animals.
