Coronavirus in Poland

because Italy and Spain will probably go bust.

Italy's the key.... they're going to have to completely forget about austerity for a while... unless they want to plunge the continent into a massive depression....

For Italy, tourism is a massive part of their economy. I was in Venice last year and everyone was Chinese or Russian. Here in Poland, it's food production that's key.

You became anti-EU?

I was in favour of the EEC.
Not so happy with EC.
Have allways been anti EU.

I was in Venice last year

Why would anyone sane want to go into a city choked with too many tourists to buy chinese made tourist crap? There are many places I'd love to go in Italy but Venice (in its current form) is not in the top.... any of them.

I'd like to see Grado, but only if it's not clogged with tourists...

Venice

It's an amazing place if you're outside the high season or spend your time on Giudecca, the 'back' parts of Cannareggio/Arsenale or (posh posh) Lido. A lot of Italy depends on tourism; this is going to really hit them hard. It's something they've been worried about for a long time, hence their early and strong response.

27/28+ economies interlinked by necessity and proximity. Poland very much part of it and of course a major food producer...

Venice is great but better outside mid summer

I had a trip planned to Italy for May and will still go as soon as it's safe

We were in Rome a month ago; they were testing people on arrival (a thermal camera) though not on leaving. The plane back to Warsaw was full of passengers, some with masks. There were still small crowds in the Vatican and queues for the Pantheon etc. Plus lots of Scottish rugby fans.

It's possible (probable?) that some of the passengers coming back on the plane to Poland had just been infected.

Corona clock is ticking. Much better to dedicate what was left of your lives to traveling over the Slavic world. Saying that, it include visit to our Arkona, Stounhadge, Sarmizegetusa, etc sites currently outside of Slavic world.

and austerity isn't going to work for any of them for the foreseeable future in any way shape or form.... it's a paradigm shifting moment... will the EU be up to the challenge?

jon357

austerity

It never really does.

will the EU be up to the challenge?

I think they'll respond to the challenge; the key is to be tough with free-marketeers and capitalists. We'll all take a hit, this crisis will serve as a reminder that people are more important than financial derivative trading.

you realize that is heresy to everything every western government has stood for since at least 2008?

I'd like to believe that the EU and various national governments will be up to the challenge - and I hope they realize that the first self-righteous speech about budgetary discipline and German housewives will alienate everyone....

Yep, with some bittersweet relish. Even in the U.K., the Tories are more or less implementing Labour's budgetary plans now.

It shows that we are all in it together. The capitalistic 'libertarian' model is about to be severely tested. Free marketeer billionaires like Branson are finding that the value of his investments can go down as well as up, as the small print in his website advises savers and small investors.

If anyone's short of bog roll here in Poland due to panic-buying, I strongly recommend the 'literature' of Ayn Rand. Fortunately printed on soft paper. Hayek too, however at least he was serious rather than a nutty scammer like the aforementioned.

Fifteen Polish ministers are in quarantine after the environment minister Michal Wos tested positive for coronavirus.

Poland's government spokesman said that all ministers who had attended a recent cabinet meeting were tested on Monday, their results should be known later today.

Back from Biedronka. They had meat, fish veg etc. Pasta was back (though mostly that gluten free stuff that used to be given on prescription), no rice, and surreally, a huge pile of bog rolls which nobody was buying.

That was always bound to happen.

No lines today at Carrefour at all. Plenty of meat except chicken. No shortages of anything else except maybe some canned veg. Plenty of fresh veg though. Krakow is absolute ghost town, people really playing it safe. Shocked the reported cases here are so low with so much tourism. But, the worst is yet to come.

So I don't know the term "bog roll". But I do know the translation of "Bog" from Polish, and this is a Polish forum after all. And since we are in Lent I figured maybe it was some sort of Easter food or something. I even typed it into Translate but it was no help. I decided to look it up and find out what it is. Imagine my surprise!!! Turns out I should have done the translation from English to American.

Hope this gives you a chuckle.

So I don't know the term "bog roll".

I don't recall seeing it before this forum, I was familiar with "loo roll" but maybe that's too old fashioned now...

Both terms are still in common use.

@Paulwiz

It made me chuckle......

Better that way....Olympia next!

New symptoms for a Covid-19 infection found!

About two thirds of infected people describe lasting (several days) loss of senses for taste and smell...that happens some time later during an infection.

Merkel just announced a travel van, no non EU citizen is allowed to step into EU for 30 days.

Which finally shows what lies the leftists here were trying to smuggle into our debates with that bullsh*it how the migrants and the blackening of Europe are inevitable and unstoppable. Now, eat sh*it, a-holes.

how the migrants and the blackening of Europe

How does it combine with the virus?

johnny reb

no non EU citizen is allowed to step into EU for 30 days.

And you can bet that will be extended way into the summer unless those brilliant Germans can come up with a vaccine to stop this soon.

Why do you have always bring migrants into every discussion? It's annoying!

Rich Mazur
17 Mar 2020  #569

How does it combine with the virus?

Simple. That virus pulled the curtain down and exposed the leftist lies I mentioned in 566. Without that virus, the PF leftist weasels would be free to spew their lies how the EU is powerless to stop the flood.

Thank you, Mr. Virus.

Why do you have always bring migrants into every discussion? It's annoying!

That`s obsession. Disturbances in consciousness, hallucinations. Some people see migrants everywhere, even under their own beds.
