Several drive-through COVID-19/coronavirus testing centers have opened up around Poland. You must pay for the tests online at this website, and bring the code you receive to thetest center you have selected. Locations in Warsaw, Poznań and Łódź are using CDC recommended PCR technology for accurate testing of COVID-19. The testing offered in Krakow uses antibody testing which is not recommended at this time due to accuracy concerns. Neither the Polish nor the U.S. governments have implemented a requirement to be tested. The CDC website offers some factors to take into consideration when deciding whether or not to be tested.

It's a disgrace that you should have to rely on their website for guidance. Guidance should be clearly available to everybody in Poland from the Polish government regarding testing. And some provision should be made for people either living or stranded in Poland, who don't speak Polish fluently, to be provided with that information. As for having to pay for tests, you must be joking. It's the repsonsibility of the government to provide testing free of charge at this time. If people can afford a voluntary donation and want to make it, fine, othewise there should be no charge.

As in what type of personal biometric information you must give up to the government for their safe keeping. :-/

The link that Cargo posted - tests cost 584 zloty. A weeks wages for a working Pole but maybe worth it if you want to travel etc.

I don't know the accuracy of that test but at 60 zloty I would hope it's in the high 90s !

The ones in the USA are 100% accurate so I would imagine they are the same ones in Poland.

Back in February the Minister for Heath, Szumanowski said:

"Every citizen and person residing in Poland who requires tests will have them done free of charge. I don't agree to any commercial actions."

So, does anybody know the state of affairs at present??

at the moment tests are not available to everybody who wants to have them - it would cause logisitic problems as Polish laboratories are currently able to perform around 13 thousands of tests daily and you can only imagine how many people would want a test if it were available to everyone

Nor should they be. That's a silly waste of resources. But assessment should be available as to whether you need to be tested.


The fatality rate is not the issue. It's the contagion rate and the wider implications of that.

The second issue is that because of the contagion rate and the particular ease with which the elderly catch it, there are nests of infection where the virus is raging and where people are suffering and dying in the most unpleasant circumstances, without adequate care and with no family or loved ones by their side. Ever heard of human compassion Spike?

Added to that, hospitals in Poland are rampant with the virus and those who are there with serious medical conditions such as heart, liver, kidneys etc are likely to catch it very easily and die as a result.


You really are a bit of an idiot aren't you? Around 20% of the population of Poland is aged 65 or over. There is a very good chance of them catching it because of the contagion rate.

The third issue is that with up to 20% of cases needing hospital care and around 6% of those needing to be in ICU, and without sufficient medical staff, the health service is under enormous strain and people who have other serious medical conditions are being left untreated. This will lead to further deaths.

The issue is NOT the fatality rate of Covid-19, it's the contagion rate and the grip it has on hospitals and community care settings.

Incidentally did anybody read the pathetic news about the authorities trying to recruit 120 registered but non-practising doctors from the register for Mazowieckie? Ninety of them supplied sick notes and failed to show up. Hippocratc oath my arse but then what can you expect with attitudes like Spike's?

Is this true outside of mazowieckie? A friend of mine works in a regular hospital and says they are not especially busy, a friend of this friend does work in the infectious disease unit of another hospital treating coronavirus victims and they're a bit busier than usual but hardly overwhelmed...


Well hospitals and nursing homes are exactly the settings it thrives in - indoors and infected person in close contact with others. There's no evidence that it's especially contagious in the open air (nor evidence anymore that it's easy to become infected through surface contact, it can happen but it's not the usual pathway).

All the info I can find (from specialists rather than politicians or the media) suggests that it's not that contagious and mostly not that serious (except for especially vulnerable cases like the elderly especially the elderly in closed environments).


I know someone with a nursing background (not working in patient care now) who's afraid of being called up and will also try to get an illness exemption (on the basis of existing respiratory and immune system issues which are risk factors).

The counselor called and woke me up,telling me that they can get help for a price and for tests one has to be in a car and only 120 tests per day.The line for the tests starts around 5AM and they start testing at 8 AM.Its on Al ken as the site said.150$ not bad,but getting up at 4 AM to be there is a bit too much without any symptons.He also told me if I can wait,it will be cheaper and faster.

Dollars or Zloty?

Nope,but just to be safe,I will get tested before going as I dont want to take it home with me and infect my near and dear ones.The flight to Chicago is on 24th April only if 50 or more people will go.All will be only tested for temperature,so I will wait.

They want $150 to take a test that should be free? No wonder its going to keep spreading, they don't want to pay a few extra zloty for garbage pickup over there and trying to get 150 will never happen..

There has to be more than 50 ppl that want to get back home. It still seems sketchy flying and you might be safer waiting a couple more weeks. I know, it stinks being stuck somewhere. I get homesick after awhile too. At least your in a good city/country, could be a lot worse!

We are much closer to the end of this here than the USA is. Booked my flight for July 1. Not even going to consider May or June. Four weeks or so and we should be sitting at tables having beer outside. I think inside pub spaces will be limited still, but outdoors I think they will open up pretty quickly.

All travelers should be prepared for long delays at the German border, and should carry a copy of their flight confirmation and their passports with them at all times. With certain exceptions, travelers will not be readmitted to Poland if they encounter problems in Germany after crossing the border.

Interesting prediction. I'm not so confident - perhaps towards the end of June, but I think they won't be letting people congregate in such numbers until the borders re-open.

Borders will reopen in May. Poland and every other country knows that the end of June would be a death sentence for the economy. One that would take a decade or more to recover from. All the doom and gloom I am not buying into. Its dangerous yes. You could be in real danger if you are in a high risk group. Risk should be weighed by individuals come May.

Once the borders re-open tourism wont begin for 4 to 6 weeks after. The cost of flights, hotels and all the other costs associated with travel are too expensive on short notice purchase. It will take time for the business that do survive to hire and prepare. End of June would take tourism to start in August, and by then its over. Take into account the fear of travel having to abate a while, and tourists having less disposable income, and the government knows, they can not wait too long.

The majority of these infections are in clusters. Hospitals, retirement homes, and close quarter situations. News reports say sunlight, hot and humid weather kill the virus quickly. Getting warmer every day and the sun is out. Think PiS want to be known for the group that killed the Polish economy after all their gimmicks to get people money?
