Coronavirus in Poland

mafketis
14 Jun 2020  #2491

There has been no obvious peak in Poland

I'd say there has and that the main difference is that Poland has a much larger population than Ireland and the curve is much flatter (for whatever reason) if you scale the Irish numbers to Poland that would be a week or so of over 300 deaths a day (and the highest single day total in Poland has been 40).

Unless Poland gets to a rate of 25 or more deaths for three days in any five day period (a ratio I just made up) or unless the hospitalization rate increases back over 2200 for a week then Poland is past the peak.

Does Ireland publicize hospitalization numbers? It seems like a useful number to keep track of but if all hospitals are treating coronavirus patients then it might be awkward to collect....

The new virus aka second wave in China seems to be an even more dangerous mutation....but from a flesh market....again.

The more things change the more stay the same, and here I thought the Chinese promised to get a grip on what they sell on these markets!

Close the borders! No country should accept _any_ travellers from China.

Well....from tomorrow morning on Germany is opening the very same again.

It's madness if you ask me....to end the lockdown so early!

From the 16th of July (coming Tuesday) Germany ends the Corona-border controls...citizens of the EU and Swiss can travel again unhindered.

I am boycotting Chinese food since March. Do the same! If possible stop buying things "Made in China".

Tacitus

I would be more worried about travellers from the USA. The virus is still spreading at a strong rate there. They had like 25k new cases there yesterday.

I am boycotting Chinese food since March.

Unless you are importing food from China, that sounds like a terrible idea. Those Chinese people who work in those restaurants (some of which might be even native citizens by now) are not responsible for what the Chinese government does in another country. In facto Chinese migrants are contributing to the economy of your country.

I agree....the chinese food deliveries here are Vietnamese (I guess!:)

But I stopped buying from Amazon the cheap stuff from China...it takes an eternity and more often than not it's lost money anyhow (worst quality), rarely a "Geiz is geil" kind of good deal!

I thought the Chinese promised to get a grip on what they sell on these markets!

Its abundantly clear that we can't take the word of the commie chink government. They have lied time after time and cant be trusted at all. They're are not our friends, but really the arch enemy of the free world.

But I stopped buying from Amazon the cheap stuff from China.

Same here. When I go into a store and see made in China, I wont buy it anymore. Id rather pay a few extra bucks for good American quality, instead of cheap Chinese junk!

Close the borders! No country should accept _any_ travellers from China.

Im hoping Trump employs a permanent travel ban into the USA and also stops letting their students come to our universities. They only come to steal knowledge and spy for their commie masters. We need that anchor baby law passed as well. No more chink maternity houses in the USA...... Revoke!!

Does Ireland publicize hospitalization numbers?

Yes. Last night there were 74 people in hospital confirmed cases and 128 suspected cases, with 27 confirmed in intensive care and 9 suspected. They also publish the minutes of the meetings of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

if all hospitals are treating coronavirus patients then it might be awkward to collect....

They've been really efficient, I have to say. They even publish the numbers for each hospital. I suppose that's because the epidemic is being managed by a team of doctors including a special infectious diseases team and they micro-manage everything.

Again no 18.00 update so these figures are from the morning

Fatalities (daily total) 9 (average age 73)

Hospitalizations down 12 to 1736 so the new normal of around 1700 is holding

Cured (daily total) 157

Which Poles? Not the ones round here in Warsaw, who are socially distancing and wearing masks.

mafketis
16 Jun 2020  #2505

today's numbers.... still no 18.00 update so I'm assuming they're just doing one update a day now....

Fatalities (daily total) 16 (average age I think 74, I calculated it earlier but can't find it right now)

Hospitalization (running total) 1806 (up a bit but still well below the peak period)

Cured (daily total) 271...

in Warsaw, who are socially distancing and wearing masks

As the weather gets hotter the masks get rarer in Poznań... I forgot to put it on before going in a store yesterday and no one said anything just as no one says anything about those who don't wear them in public transport either...

Social distacing...... in Poland? You're kidding right? There's a pretence in the check out line at Biedronka but no where else...

Social distacing...... in Poland?

I think I've said more bad words in Polish over the last few weeks than I've done in 10 years. I hate bad language in Polish, but I just can't stand people who have a pathological need to stand close to other people.

"Officially, more than 44,000 deaths in England and Wales have involved Covid-19. But how many have died as a direct result of the disease itself and how many are victims of the fear and neglect that it has engendered?"

"researchers found that acute respiratory distress was not the primary problem - deaths were mainly due to hypovolemic shock, or fluid loss. Confined to their rooms in lockdown, with staff absences running at 40 per cent and with a consequent reduction in the usual support, residents were dying of thirst."

It seems Mother Nature takes its toll. As one scientist observed some 10 years ago: Man will never kill Earth, but Earth will surely kill Man one day (due to an over-exploitation of the planet brought about by the mirage of an ever-lasting economic growth).

Misleading people again?? The research refers to France, whilst your post suggests that you're talking about the UK.

Be a smart person

That's a rather foolish suggestion, seeing as I obviously already did what you say a smart person would do. Your post is a deliberate attempt to misrepresent facts. You open by referring to deaths in the England and Wales and then omit the first part of the sentence about the research which states:

"A recent study in the southern Île-de-France region suggests confinement itself has had catastrophic consequences. In long-term care facilities with excess Covid-19 deaths, researchers found" etc.

No doubt the care home crisis across Europe will be looked into in those countries most affected and we're likely to see the facts emerge, particularly from those countries such as the UK, with a strong tradition of accountability and transparency.

You said that ;-)

See? We can either play a word ping-pong or discuss the article.

I started with an opening paragraph of the aforementioned article. And then provided some more quotes from it to interest the reader. It's all there written nice and clear in the article.

Your endless faith in government is perhaps your most endearing quality....

On the other hand I seem to remember back in 2003 or so about 14,000 French people (mostly elderly) died in a heatwave and everybody just kind of yawned cause they didn't want to interrupt their vacation...

Fatalities (daily total) 14 with an age range 57-95, average age 76, again I think, I calculated it earlier but can't find it right now (and all had comorbidities - of some sort).

Hospitalization (running total) down 113 to 1693 in line with the new normal of around 1750

Cured (daily total) 267

Poles tend to be very concerned with cleanliness, hygiene and many are germaphobes

I would say they are hyperchondriacs.....I don't know a Polish person who does not have a cupboard overflowing with pills and medicines.....

The cbsnews media reported that the new coronavirus has infected more than 400,000 Americans and killed nearly 15,000 people in the country. American surgeon Dr. Jerome Adams is at the forefront of his efforts, trying to convey a message to the country in order to continue to maintain distance from society and proper sanitation, with a "smooth curve".

Today's numbers, general increases (hopefully temporary)

Fatalities (daily total) 30, the biggest number in a while, average age 75

Hospitalizations (running total) 1849 a jump of over 150 from a day ago but still shy of 2000

Cured 396 (well over the number of cases discovered for the day, so that's good)....

Atch
18 Jun 2020  #2520

I know that you don't consider the number of new cases to be important Maf, because of the rise being related to the increased testing, but I think it's worth noting that out of the 314 new cases, only 88 were in Silesia. That means the virus is still very active in other regions of Poland. Cant see how these figures will diminish any time soon. We will continue to see hundreds of new cases each day and more deaths.
