Ukraine Crisis... Poland... and the way i see it

let Ukraine be Ukraine

Ukraine will still be Ukraine, just a smaller Ukraine.

Quite frankly, without the rust-belt in the east it will be a better country too, and far more likely to join the EU sooner too.

Who are we to decide what's good for them?

I do not know who are you. But I, at least, have the right to obtain citizenship of Ukraine by simplified procedure in 1 month, and I have a lot of close relatives in Ukraine, in contact. So I have a bit more information from the insiders...

well, if you're not supporting Ukraine's independence, you're obviously not a true Ukrainian. The citizenship alone has nothing to do with it. Then again, I'm not denying that there are certainly a few Ukrainians who sold their soles to the highest bidder (Russia, in this particular case).

(done for right now)

Harry

Are they f**k! At the moment Kiev spends some $1.5 billion per year just propping up the loss-making coal industry. Plus another $5 billion per year propping up the regions in general. I can't wait to see the Russian reaction when they realise what they have won in exchange for lots of sanctions :D

Velund
16 May 2014  #909

well, if you're not supporting Ukraine's independence, you're obviously not a true Ukrainian.

I doubt that there is such thing as "True Ukrainian" at all. Nation assume presence of common interests, common language, common cultural background, and common history. I do not see such "absolute minimum" there. Interests is different, no agreement on language, cultural backgroung and religion is different on the West and the East, and there is problems even with common history.

Szalawa
16 May 2014  #910

where is the legend, Szalawa?

It doesn't have one but Ill try to explain it,

West (UPA flag) - Extremists
Central (Ukrainian flag) - Ukraine proper
Crimea (Russian flag) - Russia
East-South (Donetsk People's Republic Flag?)- Some new country built from Donbass rep?

It's not literal just something I found on the internet

I doubt that there is such thing as "True Ukrainian" at all

of course there is and if you thought about it for a minute, you'd be able to explain it to yourself. OK, on the second thought.........you probably couldn't.

Anyways in general, someone who's emotionally connected with his country, people, culture etc. is a true... in this particular case...Ukrainian, simple as that.

of course there is and if you thought about it for a minute, you'd be able to explain it to yourself. OK, on the second thought.........you probably couldn't.

First thought - anyone who born in Ukraine can be considered true Ukrainian... But second thought - they is almost ready to kill each other, so we need to determine who is really true Ukrainian.

Anyways in general, someone who's emotionally connected with his country, people, culture etc. is a true... in this particular case...Ukrainian, simple as that.

So, let's look. Both people living in Volyn and in Donbass emotionally connected with their country, (local) culture, etc. So, we need some indications of "true Ukrainian".

Just few questions?

- Should "true Ukrainian" be orthodox, uniate or catholic?
- Should "true Ukrainian" consider Bogdan Khmelnitsky as traitor?
- Should "true Ukrainian" be ready to kill poles and russians, contaminating holy Ukrainian soil?
- Should "true Ukrainian" stand in line near polish embassy or simply go and buy a ticket to Russia while he need to get some job to feed their family?

- Should "true Ukrainian" consider Stepan Bandera national Hero?
... etc, etc, etc...

As a extremely enlighted person and a proven expert in ukrology, can you provide clear explanation and some signs of "true Ukrainian"?

Accurate map of Ukraine

That map is pure Kremlin propaganda. An accurate map of Ukraine shows that the Kremlin's plan includes taking over two provinces of Ukraine where the population is 82% ethnic Ukrainians and only 14.1% ethnic Russians:

Map of Ukraine

I do love the claim that the UPA weren't proper Ukrainians! Only a Russian could make that claim.

I already answered your question. Not going to play your childish game. Why don't you say something that makes sense, for a change?....oops, I take it back.

You have to go further then ethnicity here Harry, the Ukrainian people themselves (excluding ethnic Russians) have different mentality

Some Political maps

Territorial map of Ukraine

Ukraine

Notice the two different Boundaries between West Ukraine and Ukraine Rep of Kiev?
Notice that some land belongs to Ukraine today that is not originally Ukraine territory? Notice that Volyn is not even within the boundary of either Ukraine's? To me west Ukraine is equally Polish as it is Ukrainian, you can't claim only Ukrainians own the land and exclude the Pole's

Deja vu all over again: Putin has announced, for the third time, that Russian troops will be pulled back from the border with Ukraine. Sadly for him satellites show that the forces haven't moved.

And yet more people are being kidnapped, tortured and murdered by pro-Kremlin forces.

According to Neistat, the victims she interviewed suffered "horrendous" violence and acts of cruelty that in many cases led to serious injuries.

Some Poles love Russia

Two former deputies, two professors, two lawyers and a few Polish "Slavs" sent a letter to Vladimir Putin. Praising the methods used by the former KGB-istyna Ukraine demanding the appointment of the World Council of Slavs and congratulate the Russian people "of the current authorities of the Federation."

Wolyn Massacre is Putin propaganda,yes?

According to Andriy Tarasenko "stories about Volyn massacre, pointing to 100 thousand. Polish victims of the Ukrainian nationalists, is nonsense".
"Poland should give us Przemyƛl". Ukrainian nationalists territorial report claims

Among the Kyiv demonstrators is not difficult to come across on sympathizers in Poland covered with infamous Stepan Bandera. Many of them are members of the nationalist Right Sector, which does not hide its territorial claims relation to Polish. - After the war operation "Wisla" meant that the Ukrainians from these ethnic lands were expelled and fairness would dictate that these lands returned to Ukraine. I am talking about Przemysl and several other counties - said the "Rzeczpospolita" Right Sector spokesman Andriy Tarasenko

The unelected head of the junta in Kiev has called for the communist party to be banned, perhaps his neo nazi partners will help in this drive for democracy. He has already signed off on an energy price hike of between 240% and 425% which no one voted for and a bailout for his banker friends, exact figures are yet to be decided or revealed to the public.

communist party to be banned

no need to be neo nazi to do just that. What communism did to people is well documented and doesn't require any further comment.

The unelected head of the junta in Kiev has called for the communist party to be banned

Oh dear Barney, you appear to have been caught lying yet again. Last time you were lying about acting Ukrainian president Oleksander Turchynov you were claiming that he got 1% of the vote in a presidential election he didn't stand in. Now you are claiming that he's unelected, when in reality he was voted for by the overwhelming majority of the Ukrainian parliament.

But let's look at the actual words of the man:

"As for the activity of the Communist Party or any other party, we have a law according to which if there is evidence, and the evidence is now being studied by SBU, the Interior Ministry and other agencies, that any political organization is going beyond the constitution and acting contrary to the constitutional limitations of political activities, or whose actions are a threat to the country, a lawsuit is submitted to court and the court decides on this matter [of banning a political party]."
...
"Such materials are being studied with regard to many political forces that are involved in supporting separatists or organizations conducting pseudo-referendums and other provocative actions, including in a combat confrontation in Ukraine."

en.interfax.com.ua/news/general/204415.html

"Today I have signed an official letter to the Justice Ministry of Ukraine, where I'm inviting the minister to study all materials, provided by the Security Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor-General's Office, regarding the unlawful, anticonstitutional activity of the Communist Party of Ukraine. And I'm convinced, Ukrainian Court will put a period to this matter," said the Acting President.

un.ua/eng/article/510222.html
You might support organisations which break the law Barney (actually now I think about it, you do support some organisations which break the law, including some which break the law by murdering little children), but other people consider the rule of law to be important.

And 'junta', really? Are you still telling that lie? Do you really think that you can change reality just by repeating your lies again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again ....

Barney
21 May 2014  #927

no need to be neo nazi to do just that.

This is true, one doesn't need to be a neo nazi to ban political parties just undemocratic.

Harry
21 May 2014  #928

An interesting stance Barney. I must say that I am surprised to see you openly supporting neo-Nazis such as the French political party Unité Radicale (Radical Unity), who were banned for violating a 1936 French law against inciting hatred and racial violence. To most of us respect for the rule of just law is a fundamental necessity for civilised society but to you it is only undemocratic. Or is it only undemocratic when governments you oppose, such as the entirely legitimate government in Ukraine, act? Would you also oppose them banning an openly violently racist political party (if one existed in Ukraine)?

By the way, any chance you can address the long and ever growing list of lies you have been caught telling here?

Nice article to sum up events that happened in Ukraine

forbes.com/sites/forbesleadershipforum/2014/05/19/why-everything-youve-read-about-ukraine-is-wrong/?ss=leadership

Remember
"Only a fanatical Russophobe would imagine that Russia wants to expand. The Baltic republics, Moldova, Georgia, and Poland, continue to prod Western media with the stories of Russian expansion, because NATO, the EU, and the USA are more than happy to "stand up to Russia" and provide financial aid."

Harry

Only a fanatical Russophobe would imagine that Russia wants to expand.

Only one word is needed to disprove that claim: Crimea.
