But at the moment Johnny some guy in Wyoming has a vote that is seven times as valuable as your own - you are in Florida right? Why does living in a field make him seven times more valuable?

Of course it's your system so I'm curious not interfering :)

delphiandomine

That would eliminate the voters in sparsely populated areas.

Why would it eliminate them? Their vote would count equally. One man, one vote, right?

little Wyoming (which is three times bigger than Scotland)

Three times bigger and yet a fraction of the GDP.

This was already patiently explained to you delph when you asked the same exact question of "why didn't Crooked Hillary win the election if she got the most votes ?"

Remember now ?
We explained how the ELECTORAL COLLEGE (Google it) worked in the United States of America and why our forefathers set it up that way and why it is still the best system today to make it fair for everyone.

Remember now or do you just want to rehash it again for the sake of argument.

Yes I understand the system but I don't understand how it is the best or the fairest ? Can you explain why it's the fairest ? It is certainly not fair for everyone - some people's votes are worth more, and even in big states then your boat is worth more if it is in somewhere like Ohio or North Carolina then it is in California or Texas where one party is dominant

You have states rights protected at senate level and at Presidential elections. The Senate approves the Supreme Court judges, fed reserve chairman etc. Which means a lot of your famous checks and balances are based on disproportionate voting. Given you guys are all in Illinois or florida and suffer from that I don't know why you put up with it?

A guy walks into a bar in California, kills 11 and himself. Why do the suicidal murderers always do it in the wrong order?

cms neuf
9 Nov 2018  #276

In this case I think the guy was not getting the support he needed for his mental illness. Either that or they should ban country and western bars then the problem would go away

A guy walks into a bar in California, kills 11 and himself.

How possibly could this have happened in a State with the most stringent gun laws in the Nation !
The same State that says we need more gun laws that the mentally ill ignore.
Maybe, just maybe, there should be more stringent laws on committing the mentally ill like we had before the Liberals claimed that the mentally ill had Constitutional Rights too so therefore they should not be committed and they were turned loose out into the public.

The police were called on this guy when he tore the walls apart in his house and was outside yelling threats but for some reason the authorities thought this was normal behavior so no mental evaluation was done in depth.

It is just easier to say it was the guns fault in order to take ALL the law abiding citizens guns from them.
Maybe we should take all the pens out of circulation so no one could write a bad check because it is most certainly the pens fault.

In this case I think the guy was not getting the support he needed for his mental illness.

EXACTLY but don't try to convince the gun grabbers of that.

I think they know that! Most gun-mass murders have their cause in someone mental ill...the thing is that it is super easy for a disturbed person to help himself to the means to make their dark fantasy reality. Often they are living with healthy people who have whole drawers full with weapons, they just have to take some...

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!!

All countries have their mentally disturbed people...but without weapons so easily available these destructive moods are not as deadly as currently in the US.

What do you think could be an alternative to stop that? As you can't stop mental illnesses...what else could help than to make weapons harder to come by? And that means in consequence to take away weapons from the healthy ones too.

I don't see any other possibility...

Tacitus

Maybe we should take all the pens out of circulation

Unless you are John Wick, a pen won't help you killing a large number of people.

And that means in consequence to take away weapons from the healthy ones too.

And by take away we mean those who do not have a good reason to own them. Unless you are a hunter, or someone who does shooting as a sport, there is no reason to own guns privately, period.

As you can't stop mental illnesses...

...but we don't have to cater to them, either.
A guy walks into a doctor's office with a splinter and walks out with a pain killer and a disclaimer: may cause suicidal thoughts.

A month later, the same guy walks into that doctor's office with suicidal thoughts and walks out with the case of PTSD and three more drugs.

Well, we know the rest. It's on tee-vee.

On my island, there would be no anti-suicide 800 lines. The pro-suicide operators would actually advise the callers to do it safely with the minimum harm to those who are not done with living just yet.

Each call would end with: If you are planning to kill others and yourself, please start with yourself. If you do that, you will get a citizen of the year award.

Bratwurst Boy
9 Nov 2018  #281

One possibility...sure! :)

But that doesn't help those mentally ill people who live already in their own cloud, totally detached from reality...who hear voices who order them to go out and kill...or who feel surrounded by enemies...these people often don't even know anymore that they have a serious problem, they rather think the others are the problem.

These kind of sick people rarely call for help because they don't think they need help...and at one point they go out and follow their inner demons and believe they do the right thing. And right now there is nothing which stops them when they get the urge!

johnny reb

there is no reason to own guns privately, period.

A well armed militia holds the government in check.
And before you come back with the lame excuse of guns against the U.S. military take a look at the twenty year war in Afghanistan.

My gun also protects me and my home (from the mentally ill) as there is a twenty minute response time for the police to show up.

As foreigners you have never experienced the freedom of owning a gun to do that.
Which helps me understand your lame opinions.

Bratwurst Boy

As foreigners you have never experienced the freedom of owning a gun to do that.

I would like to see you tell that TO THE FACE of the parents of the murdered little ones in Sandy Hook.

What a freedom is that??? Most Europeans hope NEVER to experience that. I prefer our little ones rather lame than dead.

TO THE FACE of the parents

Some of those parents were gun owners and still are.
You make no legitimate point here besides just wanting to ARGUE a moot point.
Most of Americans own guns and we are hell bent on keeping them so don't expect much to change in your life time.
You do know that their are bad guys committing crimes with guns that get shot by law abiding citizens frequently too.
Enough said.

Well...it's not my children which get killed when they go to school...or to a cinema...or bar....or concert...

If you don't care why should I, you are right.

I would like to see you tell that TO THE FACE of the parents of the murdered little ones in Sandy Hook.

Good point falling my deaf ears.
Recently, I went to four high schools here (Palatine, Lake Zurich, Arlington Heights, and Buffalo Grove) to ask about their current security measures. Specifically, do you check what's in the backpacks? No? Why not? That would upset the parents. OK. Thank you.

Then, go die, a**holes. Zero sympathy. Yes, I am a mean bastard. Unfortunately, instead of those moron parents, it's their kids that do the dying unaware that it was their parents that "hate guns and armed teachers" and, thus, signed their own kids' death warrants.

Just as it is the fact that "America" lies between two oceans, we have 300,000,000 guns. That genie is not going back into the bottle.

Bratwurst Boy

Yeah...it's hard to imagine....

Then...so the killing and dying will go on. Sad.

Rich Mazur
9 Nov 2018  #288

Yes, until the Americans accept this strange bit of statistics as compelling: Even the sickest morons, with every imaginable mental disorder, never, ever attack police stations. Individual cops? Yes? Stations full of cops? No f****** way! Duh!

I wonder how these mental cases are still smart enough to figure that one out. Hmm..

Rich Mazur

Na ja...it happens!

It does but, to the best of my knowledge, not as a direct attack on the police stations like they do schools.
What I hate is that the cops here have lesser weapons that their attackers. Not long ago, cops were "armed" with revolvers while the bad guys were carrying UZIs.

An AR-15 with a scope and laser should be standard in all situations, especially those late night, three black thugs in a car pull overs. And never, ever one cop, three black thugs, or you are fired if you don't ask for a back-up.

Trump didn't go honoring the US WWI war dead because...and that's no joke..it rained!

"....Trump was criticised in harsh terms by Winston Churchill's grandson, Nicholas Soames, who tweeted: "They died with their face to the foe and that pathetic inadequate @realDonaldTrump couldn't even defy the weather to pay his respects to The Fallen #hesnotfittorepresenthisgreatcountry.""

theguardian.com/us-news/2018/nov/10/trump-baltics-balkans-mixup-le-monde-belleau-cemetery-paris

Okay...you can mess up the Balkan with the Baltics and blame Estonia for the Balkan war....it can happen...both start with a "B".

..."Trump opened by attributing to [the Baltic leaders] the responsibility for the war in Yugoslavia".

....but such a snub is brutal....

Let's face it...this MAGA man gives a **** about it all!

And what could that mean for all the promises to secure the safety of Poland if this man most probably doesn't even know where Poland is on a map?

cms neuf

I am sure it will be either Obanas fault for not buyimg a better helicopter or Clintons for selling the embassy car.

Rich Mazur
11 Nov 2018  #293

what could that mean for all the promises to secure the safety of Poland if this man most probably doesn't even know where Poland is on a map?

It could mean that Poland and dozens like Poland should not depend on the US. Poland's safety is not our problem and I wouldn't waste one American life defending it. The US stupidly tried that in South Vietnam and lost 58,000 dead for nothing.

Trump may not know Estonia from the hole in the ground, but he knows whose president he is. I am sure Obama would do all the required honors as perfectly as he managed to kiss every world a-hole's rear end. In that contest, Trump wins hands down because he is crude and doesn't give a crap how anyone feels.

Bratwurst Boy

...tell that to those Poles who look to Trump like the Messias ("Fort Trump")!

In that contest, Trump wins hands down because he is crude and doesn't give a crap how anyone feels.

Well, the US veterans are miffed and rightly so...

For someone who keeps on blathering about the greatness of the US, build on the backs of these veterans and their sacrifices after all, it makes for a cheesy image. Maybe he just truly is a blabbering loudmouth of a liar and not much more!

He saved this country from its globalist open borders, Muslim-loving mafia and had the temerity to say "America first" and that he is the president of the United States, not the "world leader", a blasphemy to the ruling swamp. What counts is what he did or tried to do so far while in office. All the rest, his pussy talk, rudeness and crudeness are just minor distractions.

He also emboldened other politicians to act as patriots. Hence, Austria, Italy and, recently, Brasil. So, now, it's OK to be white, proud, Christian nationalist instead of an apologetic trembling gutless weasel always thinking what else is owed the world, which is nothing.

Strangely, every time I ask for the specifics about his "lies" I get nothing or nonsense. Same as with those alleged racist banners in Poland.

Bratwurst Boy
11 Nov 2018  #296

It seems to be that clear lies becomes nonsense when you believe in the person telling them...the same with such banners. For one it's clear racism for the other something to support.

Here some nonsense:

politifact.com/personalities/donald-trump/statements/byruling/false

He saved this country from its globalist open borders,

And that IS nonsense, sorry.....what does that even mean?

...and had the temerity to say "America first"

And frankly when he cares more about his hairdo than about honoring soldiers WHO DIED for America, his words are only horse ****...

Rich Mazur
11 Nov 2018  #297

Here some nonsense:

It is nonsense. Some of those are political rhetoric that Democrats practice with glee every day. Trump is merely returning fire.
Some are true. Like NAFTA and jobs.
Some are merely his opinions and evaluations which cannot ever be classified as "lies".
A "lie" is a statement known to the speaker to be not true. Being wrong is not a lie until it is established what the speaker knew when he spoke.

What is clear and critical to the Trump voters is what he DID and still wants to do for the United States. EVERYTHING else is noise. Veterans and hair included.

BTW, veterans are those who survived. Those who died in WW1 died didn't die for "America". They died because they were drafted and dragged where bullets were flying. Today, with the volunteer army, those who died in Afghanistan were there for personal satisfaction, not to defend "America". That dying for "America" is a post-fact feel-good bs. Only the US Border Patrol guys can make that claim.

Bratwurst Boy
11 Nov 2018  #298

That dying for "America" is a post-fact feel-good bs.

Well...for Poles on this board surely not. It was WWI...without the US on the side of the allies who knows if they had won...the US wouldn't be the world power it became and Poland? Somehow I'm quite sure there wouldn't be a discussion these days about an "independence march".

To ignore all that and preferring to stay in the hotel because of some rain drops says alot to me about the person who talks so much about american greatness...

But hey, it's not MY president...why do I care!

Rich Mazur
11 Nov 2018  #299

Well...for Poles on this board surely not. It was WWI...

I should have prefaced my posts on this subject with a clarification that I am looking at things strictly through the eyes of an average guy in the fly-over "America". He, like me, does not give a s*** about Poland or Albania. He wants his job with benefits, his team to win next Sunday, and his town without the Latino Spanish speaking garbage everywhere he goes.
