This is truly stupid. I don't understand why women don't put up a bigger stink about this. If I had a daughter, who had spent years preparing for competition, that then got beaten by a man - I'd be pretty upset.

There should be a separate category of competition for people that have undergone sex changes. Trans women vs trans women. It might even make for entertaining television.

I agree, that was unfortunate. I don't think he cares much either way - he's an archetypical politician. First he pandered to Tucker's crowd by calling the war a "territorial dispute". Then he caught a ton of flak from establishment republicans for being soft on Russia. So he softened the "territorial dispute" language, and for good measure sprinkled in some "war criminal". Now, he can go back at some point in the near future to positioning himself as a no-nonsense realist. It would look something like this:

CNN: At one point you called Russia's invasion of Ukraine a "territorial dispute" - do you regret using that term?

DeSantis: I believe that statement was mischaracterized. Furthermore, I have already stated that I believe Vladimir Putin is a war criminal. What's important at this point, however, is to bring this horrible war to a conclusion.

I'm a woman and I disagree totally with men who have had a 'sex change' competing against women.

The science (and that's what matters in this discussion) shows that testosterone suppression is not enough. A trans-woman may retain other physical traits which give them an unfair advantage in competition.


This has been suggested in the UK by The Sports Councils Equality Group (SCEG). They've suggested an open or universal admissions category. That seems reasonable.

Whoa! I was joking, and didn't expect anyone had actually proposed this. Something tells me that there will be limited interest from the trans community towards this type of competition.

Perhaps this is confirmation bias on my end, but I feel that most of the instances of trans women winning female competitions that I had read about involved former men that were less than exceptional athletes when competing amongst men. Putting them back up against men is probably not very attractive to them as a proposition. They would also claim this perpetuates the "othering" of them, whatever the hell that implies.

If they absolutely must compete with biologically sound women, then maybe a mathematical approach would work. Determine what the spread is between men and women in terms of ability, and then apply that handicap to the trans athlete (maybe take a 25% haircut to that spread to account for their illness). That is, make them start the 100M dash a second later, or throw on 120 extra lbs of weight to their dead lift. If it's a combat sport like boxing or wrestling, make them drink 0.75L of whisky, and run a marathon before climbing into the ring. Just a suggestion.

Well, it looks like they won't be competing in anything now unless they create their own events. They've just been banned from female athletics by the World Athletics governing body. Any transgender athlete who has been through male puberty won't be allowed to compete in female athletics.

Problem is that is Trump did win by some electoral college miracle it would come with a popular vote deficit of maybe 12-15 million. That won't be sustainable for American democracy
