USA News and Poland - Part 7

You just gave us a very good example of circular logic.

No, you forgot to add the part of roofing companies wanting to make a certain margin and the cost of roofing Americans are willing to pay.

I'm not sure any of this has to do with quote-unquote livable wage, either. Your quote from the dailymail has more to do with inflation than it does with illegal immigration.

The current labor market in America is a much more complex problem than simply illegal immigrants. And illegal immigration is a helluvalot more of a complex problems than just its impact on the labor market.

My overall point is that the illegal immigrants are all scum and all should go back from where they came v migrants are people who just want a better life and we need open our arms to all of them is a doomed simplistic argument that is not based in reality--although the solution is rather simple, IMO.

Weren't you saying how devout a Christian you are in another thread.

Perhaps that was just in that thread, not real life.

AntV

@jon357

You may have misunderstood what I said because I wrote it very clumsily. In short, I'm critical of both of the opposing views that say 1) all illegal immigrants are scum and should be immediately deported AND 2) we should freely open our arms to anyone who wants to migrate and allow them come in without regulation. Both are wrong in my view, and will not solve the illegal immigrant problem.

As far as me claiming how devout a Christian I am would seem strange to me. I am a practicing Catholic and accept the teachings of the RCC as taught by the Magisterium, but to tout my devoutness or lack thereof is not something I've ever been comfortable with, so you probably read something into what I have previously said.

Indeed. It was the v I missed.

About immigration, politicians from every main party talk about it, largely as a dog whistle to their potential voters without any of them ever being able to do anything about it (though that scandal over there where they were separating kids from their parents was truly vile). The rhetoric gets toxic when it's right-wing politicians since they're trying to dog whistle both to moderates and to a very unpleasant small-minded constituency.

In fact, little or nothing will or can be done by any party. It's not a crisis; crises are temporary. Large-scale immigration, like it or not (and I have very mixed feelings myself) is the story of the next couple of centuries. Population growth and climate change have ensured that. That and the output of Netflix etc (netflix is now a verb in Arabic) streaming what is in effect an advert for affluence to every phone or TV in the developing world. It's best not to flaunt wealth since there will always be people, often ambitious, young, and desperate who covet it and are resourceful enough to act on it. Plus of course the TV and film output extolling the 'American Dream' (effectively giving tips on how to get it). Some futurologists have praised Britain's approach (that can be applied to the US too) for getting it over with now rather than face what may be severe problems in years to come.

I am a practicing Catholic ....you probably read something into what I have previously said

As I recall it was about divorce and about marriage equality.

Worth remembering that Jesus himself was a child refugee and that early Christianity was first spread outside Israel by Hellenistic Jews, themselves migrants and often despised migrants.

Perhaps the solution would be for the people in the US to actually do some work and pay decent wages. Take hospitality where the owners are so tight that workers have to rely on tips and your typical fat ignorant lazy gringo swallows that crap. Of course the "consultants" and advertisers have convinced the said gringos that if you dont subsidise their entitled lifestyle practices you, the customer are cheap. Of course this is in the DNA of the US, the lazy pricks needed slavery cos they were...you guessed it... too lazy to do the work themselves.

As I recall it was about divorce and about marriage equality.

I certainly would argue against homosexual marriage, but I doubt I'd go on about how devout I was. I probably wouldn't have even argued against homosexual marriage from a theological POV, either; unless, someone brought theology into it.

Worth remembering that Jesus himself was a child refugee and that early Christianity was first spread outside Israel by Hellenistic Jews, themselves migrants and often despised migrants

Yeah, that's been used for decades. Not a very good argument from a non-political theological argument POV.

The immigration problem has many diverse layers to it. The dog whistling from both the right and left causes a problem in that it obstructs finding a real solution because we aren't identifying the whole problem--only slivers. Truth is many politicians on the right and left have constituents who rely on illegal immigrant labor. In America, dems want them here to build a political majority.

Of course this is in the DNA of the US, the lazy pricks needed slavery cos they were...you guessed it... too lazy to do the work themselves.

That's some funny sh!t. Crowesque crazy, but funny.

Barney
18 May 2023  #1087

@AntV
But true.

I know the US quite well and the subsidising culture in hospitality is something that needs ripped out. If I buy something I don't expect to pay hidden "taxes" cos the owner is too mean to pay a living wage. You wouldn't get away with that in places that value dignity.

jon357
18 May 2023  #1088

I certainly would argue against homosexual marriage

Fortunately marriage equality is now generally accepted and very legal in developed societies.

Not a very good argument from a non-political theological argument

True though, and an excellent point, not that most people feel the need to argue. It is something that society would do well to reflect on.

The dog whistling from both the right and left causes a problem in

One the one hand, yes, it does obstruct dialogue (there isn't a 'solution'), however the left (not that you really have much of one over there; your Democrats are much the same as the moderate wing of our Conservative, favouring business over social capital) and the mainstream right say pretty well the same things every time. It's the hard right who tend to cynically exploit the situation for electoral gain. People do get hurt because of their foul rhetoric. and they don't actually care. And of course their words achieve nothing positive.

AntV

@Barney

Are you talking about tipping?

Barney
18 May 2023  #1090

@AntV
Yes, we tip and tip more for good service. I always tip everywhere I am, its not expected by the employee but is always welcome. In the US its a hidden tax to subsidise the employer.

AntV
18 May 2023  #1091

In the US its a hidden tax to subsidise the employer.

It's actually causes an additional expense for the employer. The employer doesn't get a penny of that tip, yet has to pay 7.65% of FICA tax on it. The employer is usually fine with paying it because that means someone has patronized his business.

Besides, you are not obligated to tip in the US. It's expected, but it's not an obligation. If it was an obligation, it wouldn't be considered a tip but a wage payment. Regardless, the employer pays 7.65% of tax on it.

migrants are people who just want a better life

I don't give a crap about what they want. Bank robbers want a better life, too.
The only criterium I accept is if it benefits the US based on honest accounting. If an immigrant and his family are likely to consume more in government services than he will pay in taxes - out!

Pro-immigration advocates always show one side of the ledger - how inexpensive it is to have Juan cut grass, especially if he works off the books - but never show the other side - how much the grass owner will eventually have to pay for Juan's kid's in public schools, health care, and incarceration.

I am not even going to mention Juan's parents, brothers, sisters, uncles and god only knows who. His parents, without paying a dime in Medicare taxes, qualify for the same benefits as those who did for years.

Immigration exists today for two corrupt reasons: to depress wages and to get new Bolshevik voters. Nothing to do with the rest of us.

Final point: If there ever was a reason to have a legally-binding referendum, immigration is reason number one. Western "democracies" are a cruel joke.

. In the US its a hidden tax to subsidise the employer.

Which in my eyes makes it a bad thing.

In the UK tipping is not expected, so when I do, it is greatly appreciated.

That's the way tips should be, not expected or needed because their employers are too mean to pay them a decent wage.
I ran a business for many years and have always said that if you can't afford to pay your staff well, then you should not be in business.

AntV
18 May 2023  #1094

@Novichok

Yep, I agree, much of the above is true. And part of the problem.

Barney
18 May 2023  #1095

you are not obligated to tip in the US

Try getting a second drink if you dont tip for the first. It may cost the mean owner 7.65% but that's way cheaper than paying a decent wage. If it looks like a tax it's a tax.

new Bolshevik voters

Like all those bolsheviks from Cuba and Venezuela in Florida?

Novichok
18 May 2023  #1096

Like all those bolsheviks from Cuba

My apologies for departing from the familiar terms. In my posts, Bolsheviks = Democrats.
The majority of immigrants vote for the Democrats. Cubans are the exception to this horrible statistic.

Tipping should be either rounding up small change or a reward for exceptionally good service.

It should never, ever, be something that a worker relies of as part of their income.

Clearly you dont know fvck all about owning a restaurant. Raising server wages in the US would raise customer prices 50% of more. Wages for slow periods of the days would kill most restaurants. And, servers line up for these jobs at good places because the tips are not declared income.

Pay a waiter $20 an hour, and your $800 per weak employees turn the $80 steak dinner into $120. That $120 steak costs you a loss of customers because its no longer affordable. Out of business in less than six months.

Love the "business" people here who have never operated a business. Whens that "basic income" coming? Fvcking socialist bull$hit. Want to make money, work hard. Simple. Problem solved.

My employees are well paid. Stop commenting on business when you have no experience in business or finance. Go stand in line and wait for your basic income.

I suspect he may have rather more experience than you think.

Yet restaurants in countries that don't have a large tipping culture do well.

Quoting:

Transgender gravel cyclist who won 40-49 category in women's race asks why winner's podium was EMPTY besides her - as Megyn Kelly slams her for taking part

Because you are not a woman, you stupid piece of excrement.

AntV
19 May 2023  #1103

I can't remember who it was, but someone suggested that the way to deal with men competing in women's swimming is for the women to line up on the block but not go into the water when race starts.

Not a bad idea.

Novichok
19 May 2023  #1104

I have a better idea. They should complete his transition with a very sharp knife and sell his balls and dick to a transgender "man".

I am a genius again.

Not only raising servers wages but the kitchen help to all the way down to the dishwasher.
I have a Liberal Polack buddy that loves to argue, after having a few, like Paulina does and when loosing the debate changes it just enough to take it off the original talking point.

So with his permission I now record our "Debates" so he can't say, "I never said that" like he is so famous for doing.

Back some time ago (maybe 3 years ago) we had this same exact discussion PolAm.
He said that McDonalds should be paying their workers at least $15 an hour minimum wage which then was about $7.25 an hour to put a pickle on a burger.

My reply was, "when they do you will see your Big Mac double in price" which was met with, "Oh B.S., where do you come up with stuff like this."

All recorded mind you and about a month ago when he was half in the bag I played it back to him now that McDonald workers are getting $15 and hour and Big Mac's have gone from $2.50 back then to $5 - $6 now.

And again you were right that the profit margin is not that much on food, it is the drinks that are the money maker.
This includes fountain soda drink that cost the restaurant about .10 cents that they sell for $2.50 to $3.00 not to mention the markup on liquor drinks and beer.

Barney

Thats insane.

The national passtime here is talking, not recording yer mates. Somebody says something stupid you rip the arse out of them then its all forgotten thats why you are mates.

johnny reb
20 May 2023  #1107

you rip the arse out of them then its all forgotten thats why you are mates.

That is the way normal people do it.
You don't know this guy though, Barney.
He brings up b.s. from years ago and twists it with lies to make it in his favor like Pawian does with you said this (no I did not) and I said that (no you did not) and here is the conversation on tape so lets listen to it again together. (then the red face appears on him)

So thats why I pull the tape out from said heated debates to shut him up.
He has been a lot more careful with his lies lately.
And that is why I keep archives posts from certain trouble makers here on the P.F. (to redden their face when they lie)
Most of the time they get deleted by our bias Mod so I copy and paste them to have them in my own private file.

Hairy and delph had major meltdowns when I reposted their lies after the fact to redden their faces.
They would say, "Prove it" so when I reposted their post to prove it they had major meltdowns.
My strategy really cleaned this forum up of the liars like pawian.

All that is just too mad to be true...recording your mates and taking screen shots of a forum. Why would anyone outside of law enforcement or asylums do that

All that is just too mad to be true...recording your mates and taking screen shots of a forum.

That is Am and Pol rightist lifestyle. :):)

They would say, "Prove it"

Liar!!! They never said it. Prove it they did!!!

My strategy really cleaned this forum up of the liars

Yes, excellent strategy!! Clean the forum of the liars and become the Liar in Chief yourself. hahahahaha
