What does though is the unbearable costs that this is going to impose on Poland.
And it never gets better because the military always needs more to maintain such statis.

It's a lot, but the Polish MoD has massive real estate and gets an income for that. Plus they now use military in some places to do other stuff, often supporting the police.

This is true joun, many careers are born in the military through training.
Soldiers learns how to work on vehicles, jet engines, construction prodjects from airports to road construction.
Also it teaches boys how to listen, take orders from their boss, self respect, work as a team player, learn a trade, and a host of other things that may be missing in their lives to make them well rounded men.

So IMO it is a good investment for Poland in yet another way.

I am slightly familiar with Indian capital controls, but mostly pertaining to their capital markets. There, you have ridiculous stuff too, like the fact that shorting is illegal on their stock market. This forces people to use shops based in Singapore and HK to build complex instruments which give exposure to movement in a certain Indian stock through a product built off an index basket with esoteric weightings.

I think Indians are stupid to try to build some kind of quasi-war communism in their country, but what can you do.

I wasn't aware that there are issues with FX conversions, but I suppose it makes sense at that scale. Long term - I think it would only be in India's interest to make the rupee fully convertible. I know what they are afraid of - excessive selling pressure on the rupee as money will flee - but that flight Is well worth the benefits. Anyway, taking this thread off topic...

Rupee is a currency that needs to be actively defended to keep it's value. India recently burned a huge chunk of foreign reserves to defend the rupee. Meaning the rupee is worth less than its paper value.
