As far as I know they (they live in a very conservative totalitarian European country and are professionals) married to have a family, for social conformity, for professional reasons and for family expectations. This is far more common than you'd think. They both have other relationships. Whether or not there's ever been anything between them is their business, however if they're not, they're in the right line of work to do a turkey baster jobbie.

Very much so. In the most conservative parts of that region, you don't even see women out shopping; the men do it all. The women stay indoors, have very limited conversation and very few interests and most men won't even speak to a woman outside the family; they just don't know how to. Women are married off between 15 and 22, men marry when they're 27 to 35. Dating doesn't exist; partners are found for you. There are few or no brothels and plenty of all male Hammams. You can imagine what the men (and probably some of the women) get up to.

Very modern for them. Some men simply don't know how to talk to women and some are. too shy to.
