I used to volunteer in a "wet hostel" years ago in the UK. The only one in the area who admitted drunken people (who of course often need shelter most). Depressing and tough to do but rewarding sometimes.

You're probably thinking of the one Andy runs. They are a good bunch but at least as much social as anything else (e.g. they almost always go for a drink together afterwards). I go to their event from time to time, but much more often to the older group (who just set up, serve, pack up and go separate ways).


I'm sure there's a wet shack in MI where you could volunteer to fix the roof. You'd have to bring your own nails and tarpaper though: Mystic Jimmy can't afford any of that.
