Super interesting
But not leading to anything. Your consciousness disappears after death, that's for sure.

The correct English usage is that we can say today afternoon and it is perfect.
No, it's wrong. You got that from a rubbish website called Textranch. Your original post which has since been edited, had the full quote from the website. I simply copied it into the search engine; that's how I know where you got it from. As I suspected, this website is located in India!
You can say 'today, in the afternoon' but it's more idiomatic and normal to say 'this afternoon'. Nobody says today afternoon - except in India ........ or Poland, it seems.
Your consciousness disappears after death, that's for sure.
You don't know such a thing 'for sure'. You believe it. You don't know it.

hahaha Going to such pains over one innocent afternoon??? ):):)
except in India ........ or Poland, it seems.
That`s enough for the phrase to spread all over the world. I am going to use it more frequently. We already have tomorrow morning so we shall also adopt today afternoon.
That`s how languages evolve. :):):)

I am going to use it more frequently.
That would be fine if you didn't already make so many mistakes in basic English. Not easy being a teacher of English when you have to think before you speak, to be sure you're using correct grammar. I wouldn't add to your burden if I were you.
pawian

I wouldn't add to your burden
Thanks for being so caring. I really appreshiate it, however, no need to worry about my burdains coz i can manidge on my own. Ha!!!

Going to such pains over one innocent afternoon?
Nitpicking originates up there in the England area to diminish and shame people.
It is a part of their culture.
Take Karen and jon for example and now Ms. Atch.
How boring.
Here where I live people would say, "Does it really matter ?"
The real question today is, "Did any of you perfectly speaking people went to church today to learn the word ?"
Now that matters.

"Does it really matter ?"
It does to Atch coz I opposed her claims so she needed to prove sth. :)):):)
However, during our exchange, she revealed sth which surprised me. Namely, she is very unfriendly towards her students.
but no incentives, no rewards, is how I roll :)
She rolls over them like a tank and doesn`t take prisoners in class. )::) Simply amasing!

She rolls over them like a tank and doesn`t take prisoners in class.
That's how the Nuns treated her as a kid so she thinks that is the correct way to do it. Simple.

she revealed sth which surprised me.
Didn't reveal anything. If you'd been paying attention in the past you would remember that I've told you before, I trained as a Montessori primary teacher. That means no incentives, no rewards. Just a lovely atmosphere of freedom, courtesy, cooperation and creativity in the classroom community :)

That means no incentives, no rewards.
Horrible, really. Yuk!! Your classroom reminds me of Snow Queen`s halls.
But I still find your approach fascinating. This cold heartless evil evokes fascination not only in people but apes, too.
I trained as a Montessori primary teacher.
Didn`t you claim it was Helen Doro???
BTW, was that Montessori a nun in Ireland???
Atch
8 Dec 2024 #913
Didn`t you claim it was Helen Doro???
Do you mean Helen Doron?? the English teaching system? Know nothing about that. I did four years training in general education for children ages 3-12 years through the Montessori method.

Nobody says today afternoon
I had to look up the reference and it was weird.... if anything I would have guess 'today afternoon' had a future reference where it sounds very odd but maybe plausible as an old fashioned expression (like 'Tuesday week'.... do British people still say that?)
But as a past time reference it sounds awful.... Kind of odd since 'yesterday afternoon' or 'tomorrow afternoon' sound perfectly normal.

the Montessori method.
Never mind. I am not interested. After your earlier explanation, I know I have to keep away from it and its advocates as cold heartless people. hahahaha buhahahaha

'Tuesday week'.
I'm not sure. We do in Ireland. When I was a child I always found it confusing! Have you ever actually heard any native speaker say 'today afternoon'??
pawian
8 Dec 2024 #917
say 'today afternoon'??
buhahaha you still can`t forget that discussion, can you??? hahaha Watch out coz it might turn into an obsession...... You will go around asking everybody what they think of today afternoon. ):):)
Relax - I am going to use it coz the language needs new trends all the time to undergo necessary evolution. Besides, your this afternoon is misleading coz it may have past or future reference.

Have you ever actually heard any native speaker say 'today afternoon'??
No. I don't think I've ever heard any non-native speaker say it either....
this afternoon is misleading coz it may have past or future reference.
Also the case with 'today afternoon'....

No. I don't think I've ever heard any non-native speaker say it either....
I've an idea I've heard dialect speakers, not especially articulate, use it. In Bradford or thereabouts.
They have an odd way of speaking there. Extra vowels in words and expressions like "Old year's night" that nobody else uses.
pawian
8 Dec 2024 #920
use it. In Bradford or thereabouts.
Of course. I also heard or read it and nobody made such silly fuss about it.
That is why we won`t allow those Irish "experts" on English to try to peddle their false education here.
Irlandzkim skrytożercom mówimy stanowcze NIE!!!! hahaha buhahaha

Heard today that a recent poll suggested that half of Poles do not want to adopt the Euro.
Opinions?
pawian
8 Dec 2024 #923
adopt the Euro.
There is a special thread for it.
https://polishforums.com/news/poland-take-euro-74513/
What is your education???
mafketis
8 Dec 2024 #924
Life would be better with the Euro.
Greece and Spain and Italy would tend to disagree.... until it makes transfers part of its structure it's not a currency but a debt scheme...
Miloslaw
8 Dec 2024 #925
Life would be better with the Euro.
Really? It would certainly be more expensive,as other countries have found and Poland would cede control of their currency to the EU...... not good.
pawian
8 Dec 2024 #926
not good.
Not good you are wasting time and energy on discussing sth that will be lost in archives in 2 weeks time.
What is your education???
pawian
8 Dec 2024 #928
much better
You still need to prove it. Why don`t you move the Euro discussion to the proper thread instead of wasting your and our time in random???
Alien
9 Dec 2024 #929
not good
But not bad either. The lack of Euro in Poland is still a lack of full belonging to Western culture. This has to change.

Apropos a different topic, the verdict to expunge all guilt from
Daniel Penny in the choke hold death of the homeless man on the
subway reflects a new and frightening direction which justice has taken
in this country!
I suspect too that had Neely been white as well, the verdict might have found
Penny guilty. Had Penny been black like Neely, I have this queasy feeling that
the verdict might have been different. How though, I'm not sure.
