When you say "loser" do you mean a person who has lost multiple trials over multiple decades and has served multiple years in prison as a result of multiple felonies? And are all the records about those events publicly available information which anybody can access by visiting the site of a particular register run by a certain state? I'd love to see a slander case built around that situation.


It's disgusting that a member here wants to defend a thrice-convicted paedophile, to excuse his actions and to minimise his crimes. Utterly sickening. But it's interesting how one member claims to have far more information about that convicts actions than can get found at publicly available information sources. It's almost as if they were in the same room when certain events took place.

We need to be slightly careful with newspaper content. For one thing it's copyright, and abuse of copyright causes problems. For another, not everything in newspapers is always entirely true. But content on government websites can be relied on. It's called the principle of reliance on public records. So, for example, if a public record (as available on a government website) says that a particular somebody runs a registered business engaging in specified activities, we can rely on that information. Other people might claim otherwise, and insist that that somebody doesn't have a registered business, but the facts show they'd be lying.

In much the same way, when a register of certain types of criminal in a particular US state shows that a specified person has been three times convicted of specified crimes, we can rely on the information provided by that register. Just as we can rely on another register from that same state showing that a particular type of business was run at a specified address. And then we can wonder why anybody thought for even a single second that it was a good idea for a twice-convicted paedophile to live in a house where a childminding business operated.

Remember that education starts at an early age, certainly kindergarten. And even an earlier age for those to go to a child-minder. Wasn't there somebody here who has personal experience of the behind-the-scenes running a child-minding business in the US? Perhaps he could tell us what children learned there?

Doesn't matter how good anybody's name is: if one is merely pointing to an entry in a government register, for example the [State name] sex offenders register, and that register does indeed list the specified person as having been convicted three times of a certain crime, say for example a total of 14 counts of possession and/or distribution of child sexually abusive material, there's absolutely no chance of winning an libel action.

But you do have to wonder why a poster here is so determined to try to defend a thrice-convicted paedophile, to minimise his crimes and to lessen the impact on his victims. Perhaps that poster has a guilty conscience?
