What drove Israel and Egypt to negotiate peace had much more to do with their fear of Soviet entanglement. The aid was a need as a result of knowing that Egypt would be pinched by other countries in the region-Israel also received aid as a result.

Regardless, my main point is that it shows that Israel is willing to agree and honor equitable peace agreements where they gave up significant land with enemies who didn't recognize their existence. That peace has lasted 40-plus years.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the ongoing bombing campaign waged by Israel against the Palestinian enclave of Gaza, stating it cannot be justified by anything.

Mr. Putin, please tell Palestinians in Gaza that all that bombing by Israel will stop as soon as they ask Hamas to release the hostages and turn themselves in to the Israelis to stand trial. Since Gaza is a democracy, I am sure that Hamas will follow their voters' wishes.
