It sounds completely plausible to me. My grandfather was out in Palestine with the British Army and saw some combat against the locals. He commented on how truly savage the Arabs were, especially the Bedouins. I remember him specifically commenting on what they did with their knives/daggers. He was actually very friendly with the locals but he said you could never fully relax around them as they would slit your throat in an instant.

However, whatever Hamas did, we mustn't forget what paved the way for it - and what Israel is doing now is Biblical in terms of revenge.
