Catholic doctrine is neutral on circumcision. The only teaching it has on the subject is to say that circumcision is not a requirement for salvation. There were some back in the day who thought both baptism and circumcision were required, but I suspect those were akin to fundamentalists.

Both Augustine and Aquinas had positive things to say about it. I think Augustine even said there was a certain sacramental nature to it.

So, circumcision is not contrary to Catholic doctrine.

It's stupid and bordering on criminal. Some morons claim health reasons. If that's the justification, cut off the balls and never worry about testicular cancer.

To listen to some of you guys, you'd think circumcision has caused an epidemic of pecker malformation. Geez...it's not that big of a deal.

My point is that it isn't contrary to Catholic teaching, so the argument call1n is making is erroneous.

It is a big deal for at least two reasons:
1. We don't practice preventive surgeries. No doctor will remove an appendix on demand and for no medical reason.
2. A child is not an object for the parents to practice their beliefs on irreversibly.

We'll have to disagree on the issue, Novi.

It's more of it being an argument I'm not really that interested in. If someone wants it or not, I'm good with it. I really only wanted to point out that circumcision is not prohibited (nor is it encouraged) by Catholic teaching.

I have no skin in the game (God forgive me), but it must be pointed out that the medical community has established several health benefits to circumcision:

1) Less risk of urinary tract infections.

2) A reduced risk of some sexually transmitted diseases in men.

3) Protection against penile cancer and a lower risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners

Stop mixing different contexts and events from history and modernity. It is illogical. We are living and observing Israeli crimes now - it is Israeli animals which occupy and destroy Palestinian homeland, not vice versa.

Right now israeli troops are in palestinian homeland because said Palestinians couldn't stop themselves and walked into israeli homeland to massacre there 1400 men, women and children, and even kidnap babies, abducting and hiding them now in their homeland.

Parents can act on his behalf in many cases. To submit a boy to any irreversible procedure like circumcision or gender "reassignment" should be illegal.

As a precedent, courts can already override parents' wishes when the freaks refuse to treat their child for such idiotic reasons as their religious beliefs.

Yes, I do hope they come to their senses and start negotiations as soon as possible to avoid the worst in the future. If they don`t, Arabs will destroy Israel one day and I wouldn`t like it. In China, 2.6% are circumcised but not at birth and only for specific and rational reasons, not because some religious "elder" said so.

To be honest, I haven't spent much time on the subject of circumcision. For some reason, it's never bothered me very much - even though I am a guy with a penis, that doesn't like that there is ritualistic genital mutilation of women in Africa.

I guess it always seemed kinda harmless to me. The dudes that got circumcised may have lost some sensation, but they also don't know any better - so I don't feel too bad for them.

The medical aspect also always made sense to me. A lot easier to keep your business clean down there.

There are Arabs, for example the Saudis, who will not aid so-called Palestinian arabs because of the Palestinian alliance with Iran.

The Vatican ruled circumcision a mutilation. This was true for countless centuries. It was only very recently that Pope Pius XII ruled that circumcision is permissible for "therapeutic reasons" Here is the catch, if you think this you are a chum. There is nothing therapeutic about it nor is it a medical issue.
