To Moderators: is it normal to receive physical threats by mails through PF?
TheOther

From the thread title I am presuming they were sent through the PF email system.
if you link an email address to your account ... then people can email you.
I'm pretty sure that PF's message system is internal and not POP/SMTP based. That's why I automatically assumed that InPolska was talking about a PM, and not about a real e-mail.
no problem to send mails thru profile.
But your e-mail address is not public.

yea if you link an email address to your account (why would anybody do that I don't know) then people can email you.............I think?
You have to provide an email address to become a member here. Even if you never use it again. There is also the option not to receive emails.
When someone sends an email to someone through PF they will receive the email via PolishForums.com to safeguard against personal email addresses becoming known.
I only mentioned this as TheOther seemed to be under the impression that she had randomly received an email, perhaps because her email address is available somewhere online, and not through the PF system.

Yes, that's how I understood it after InPolska mentioned her gmail account, because her e-mail address is not visible in her profile. I would love to see the message header of that e-mail. Would be easy to determine then where it came from.

There's apparently ways to find people's email address if you're really determined.
Nah, somehow over the years here nobody pm me email me in a way I couldn't identify a sender.
However I don't advertise my email here so maybe there is a way around that, well in that case inPolska has no case, anybody could do it, assuming she didn't make it up.
She is fishing now.
Iron: no problem to send mails thru profile.
change your Gmail account, notify your friends and do not advertise your email address on PF or any other site or forum, in this way you can keep your privacy on the Internet.
wonna fish on PF - good luck - find a good bait.

@ TheOther Yes, I thought that's what you were thinking.
No-one's email address is visible to members. Emails can be sent via PF to the email address supplied by someone when they became a member, but the email received will be from PolishForums.

Yes, but only if you enable that in your profile settings. InPolska's profile says "This Member prefers not to be contacted by email", so there is no way to reach her by e-mail via PF.
the email received will be from PolishForums
Then InPolska has to clarify what the sender's name in that e-mail was - PF or Maftekis. If the first, the admin has certainly got some work to do, if the latter, she should show us the complete message header where you can see the way the e-mail took through the web.

Maybe she changed it coz of this email? I dunno?
this is all very strange

Exactly. You choose whether you want to receive emails or not.
If you read up,on her first post, you will see that InPolska said that she had now blocked anyone from sending her emails, which is why you are now seeing that message saying that she doesn't wish to be contacted.

IsPolska, I feel for you, and I appreciate all the time and effort you spend to balance some of the stupidity here. It's a thankless job. Too many people come here to argue and get attention. In the end, as you uncover the unreasonable ones, it's best to simply ignore them. I miss the ignore function, but skipping over their posts is not that hard, and it may help you with keeping your faith in humanity. Good luck! ;)

The email arriving in the inbox will be from PolishForums.com.
The content of the email will be from whoever sent it via PF.
I must say I'm horrified by some members' responses to this.
Whatever In Polska has posted on the forum in no way suggests that she should receive threats of physical violence.

The silence of the mod who posted a warning about not using a name other than a username to refer to a user who loves to insult other members is even more deafening.

Of course not, I totally agree with you. It's hard to believe that InPolska is making things up (why would she?), but on the other hand, Maftekis has never given any indication that he's someone who is threatening women with physical violence unlike some other members here. That's why this whole thing sounds a bit fishy to me.

Was it enabled before? That I don't know.

Now that some bizzare circumstances around those e-mails have been revealed, my guess is that Polonius3 has sent those threatening e-mails to InPolska under the cover of Mafketis. There are two principal reasons for this: (1) InPolska isn't a devoted, practicing Catholic and (2) she is a typical child and victim of the "political correctness" culture which Polo hates so much.

This is normal behavior for people whose arguments are from the middle ages. Polish Taliban.

You are very smart at digging up articles from 2013, but have done your homework yet, Irish Taliban?

Don't do that, Ziemowit. It could be anyone if InPolska hadn't disabled the e-mail function in her profile before she received the messages.

and since when have you ever been right about anything....???? Don't deduce bud, you suck at it.
Find who inpolska has annoyed the most lately = find the mysterious cowardly email phantom. Trolls gonna troll and worse......

Yeah its perfectly normal.

No. While bullying women and spewing hatred are very much hallmarks of Polo, he likes to do it where everybody can see it, he gets more attention that way. And given that he's pretty much been told by a certain mod that he can do whatever he wants as long as he targets only certain people, he wouldn't have to worry about being banned for threatening a woman.

That is my feeling too. also, I don't think it's Mafektis - from everything I've seen of his posts, it would be out of character. If I had to guess (never the best) I'd suggest someone from across the Atlantic.
Assuming it was sent via the forum's mail system, it should be easy for the Mods or Admin to find out, assuming a VPN wasn't used.

I think it's only fair that the email be published here.
C'mon InPolska, give the crowd what it wants ;)

Of course it could be the same person (an American teenager as I remember) who was phoning someone up (dunno how he got a number; must have taken a lot of trawling and guesswork) and threatening them before. Or the person in Warsaw (also with an American connection) who hassled a poster's step-daughter in real life.
Some people just have very low standards.

Yeah, so in that case you should find yourselves a different hobby rather than annoying people who would think naught about taking your head off just where it meet a neck.

did you do it recently?

IF mails were pre-moderated, it would not be normal; since they are not, it is normal {to potentially receive all kinds of messages, just like you may receive emails from users you don't know that include all kinds of messages, quite often unwelcome.}
