To Moderators: is it normal to receive physical threats by mails through PF?

Why would anyone ever use it when there's pm? I've never used it. Is there something special about it I've missed?

Yep. Most of us have. I got mine two months ago from one of the haters. I have never felt the urge to PM insults online - apart from to an ex of course :)) Better to be insulting on the forum proper. More fun:)

I myself find Mafekitis' protestations and indignation very believable, and shouldn't we take him at his word? It seems extremely unfair and that's putting it mildly..... I mean - if I was high one day and were to do a nasty thing like that, I would put my hand up, serve my ban, and come back all meek and apologetic.

I used to use a particular email address for here and for Facebook only. After one particular argument (with online fracking lobbyists) the person asked if I could change the setting to accept emails and within an hour someone had tried to hack into my Facebook :-(

I nevertheless NOW believe it is weird. Szczur and Maf sent me 1 message each roughly at the SAME time (Szczur was the first). As I admit I was shocked, at the time I did not even find it weird to receive 2 messages at about the same time but now I do..... Neither of them had sent me messages before. If neither Szczur (in fact now I doubt he would) nor Maf, who could it be? If 3rd person, obviously they are completely screwed up and also .. stupid. What a coincidence that 2 members send me mails at about same time???? I normally receive MPs. The 3rd person, if any, means to create some sh... as I "take my head" as we say in French with Maf because he is so prejudiced and discussed what he does not PERSONALLY know and let's be honest, Szczur, who introduces himself as "a nazi rat lover" could appear as the perfect a###hole so good material for such trick. I have personalIy (I know sometimes life is strange ;)) met 2 guys like Szczur, 1 in the US and 1 in France and when I got to know them better, I could understand that those guys could have great hearts and could be nice (as said in France "big mouths, but they don"t pi#### far"). I have never exchanged with Szczur on any topic (or rather maybe 1 time and I agreed with him) so why should he suddently send me a stupid message????

I am not an IT expert but I am sure PF can check what is sent/received thru site. If neither Szczur not Maf, I have no idea about whom could be so screwed up to do this. In such a case, I of course apologize to both Szczur and to Maf and I WILL when I know. However, why Szczur, Maf (I cannot spell ;)) and me?

We of course may disagree (we have various backgrounds, personal experiences (I myself rely on my OWN experiences) and feelings so obviously we cannot all see things the same way and it would be so boring if we did ;)) but there is a difference between arguing while on a discussion and sending bs to private addresses.

Yes, the more we analyse this it looks very much as if a third party did this in order to stir up a bit of a fuss. You were probably targeted InPolska because you're quite excitable (you can be oooh so verry Frrrench, if you know what I mean and why not, after all you are French!) and they were banking on the fact that you'd announce it on the forum. It's really probably no more than a very silly practical joke by an eejit who's too childish to realise the very real upset he could cause. Anyway hope you're home safe and sound. OK, before we proceed further, I need to know why this feature is stupid. It will then confirm my suspicions that you are confused (or pretend to be confused) how the feature really works.

@Smurf: I don't want to since very ... nasty. Since technically it is possible (I think) to find out what ip address was used to send both messages, it's a proof (if needed)

I don't think much would be gained by that since they're apparently just boilerplate abuse.

I can't understand why the admins aren't doing anything about checking address/IP.

Note: from what she's written the person who sent them sounds like someone who becomes overcome by frustration at their own lack of verbal skills and then unloads a bunch of obsenities or violent hyperbole. I don't think that that profile fits me at all. I'm quite able to defend myself verbally without recourse to nasty language. I can and do engage in strong rhetoric but plain old namecalling? I don't think so.

I'm confused as well. I can't imagine the Admin doesn't have logs showing what was sent from info@polishforums.com - it's a two second job to open them up and confirm (or deny) that something was sent from those two accounts.

The feature works like this : you (as in polishforums.com) send an e-mail from info@polishforums.com to delphiandomine@gazeta.pl. It contains information about which poster sent it, their reply-to e-mail address and a link to their profile on PF as well as the message.

Yes, InPolska is mixing up terminology - users don't have access to other users e-mail addresses through the system. But they were still able to send her abuse - and we're all asking you to confirm or deny it. I don't have a 'side' here, but it seems strange that you're so unwilling to check the logs.

That's a good start. InPolska was confused, then the few others confirmed their own confusion. Users DO NOT have access to email addresses of other posters unless they decide to contact them via the 'Send Email' feature. Still, before sending an email, they may edit it out to whatever they want to hide it, if they like. Also, they can select not to receive email messages from anybody at all. So they have 100% control about that. Now, that it's cleared, do the confused ones still think it is a 'stupid feature'?

It isn't so much about confusion, more that the feature is redundant. People can PM and if they want discussion off-forum, they can exchange email addresses.

What's cleared? Either investigate and clear me (or accuse me along with InPolska) or delete this thread. It's outrageous that she can make these claims and not be challenged by you.

We don't have free resources to investigate or 'clear' an anonymous username. If it's really needed, we can investigate and clear your real name in public (but for now it doesn't seem your real name have ever appeared on the forum).

InPolska could forward the email to you and you could check if the address it was sent from is the address I used to start an account here.

If you're not going to do anything else then delete the thread.

No email sent by 'Mafketis' account to InPolska. Something might have been sent by PM but it seems too hard to explain the difference between a PM and email to some of the posters here.

I doubt if InPolska has any emails to forward to you. I think those e-mails are in her imagination only.

At first, I wrongly assumed that InPolska could have been undergoing a sudden attack of attention-seeking. Now I am more inclined to think it was a simple attack of madness ...

If you want to stay safe on the internet and reduce the chances of people finding out who you are , or stealing personal details do the following.
create one email address that is used for personal banking, finance .
create a second account for work and business.
create a third email address for close friends and family.
create a fourth email address for forums newsletters and other junk etc.
do not use your real name or details when you create number four ..
bit of a pain checking each one but you get used to it after a while. (oh and don't do Facebook or anything like that its the first thing that future employers or phishers look at)

Now I understand that neither Szczur not Mafetis are guilty of wrongdoing as it would have been a huge coincidence that they both send me messages on the same day when they never had before ;) and that someone else did use not only my address (available thru PF till last night) but also Szczur's and Mafetis' so I would believe messages were from them.

On Monday night when checking my emails, I found 2 (nasty) messages, written by each of the above nicknames and I must say that I freaked out. Although I am safe in my home, I felt as Jon said, like my privacy had been violated and that I could be at their mercy and it was scary.

Why have I believed they were the authors of the messages? Simply because they were signed as such. I could not think that they had been written by the Pope, by Michael Jackson or by Mona Lisa (logical! ;))

How did the person get my mail address? In fact, I don't know, I'll never know and I now don't want to know. I must admit that I have been shacken by all this and tonight when arriving home, I turned my computer on and simply deleted said messages. Were they written through my profile or directly to my gmail account because whoever did it managed to get my address? I don't know.... Should I have copied-pasted said messages (too vulgar and pretty embarassing to me, as a woman), some jerks here would have written that I had written them myself so what's the need???

I am well aware that most "general" fora are now more or less fascis and should we not be "politically correct" and do not vomit onto Muslims, Jews, Blacks, or Homosexuals (since 99.99% of the targets), we have to face insults and threats and even through private messages. Several people here do get such messages. Even Dougpol said he does although he is a tough guy and also has a ..... big scaring dog ;). Yes, if we do not share their intolerant views, we become targets to be eliminated. It is of course much worse for women and it can be so bad in PF that many female members prefer not to say they are women. Fortunately English grammar since no gender endings allows this. Yes, if a woman dares disagreing with the mob, she"ll receive filthy messages and sometimes even threats. Guys (I'm talking to ALL machos), realize that we are not in Afghanistan and that we are in the 21st century and a woman who opens her mouth with non "politically correct" comments is not necessarily a wh.../bi... or whatever else you may call her.

I meant to make it public because 1. I got the said messages from someone in PF and 2. to use it as a warning. I personally get very emotional (I suppose a lot to do with my Southern genes ;)) but I don't send nasty messages to anyone. If I don't like someone, I just ignore them. Life is too short and not so easy so why wasting time??

Well, I apologize to Szczur and to Mafetis since I had strongly believed that they were behind all this. If they accept my apologies, good, and if they don't, trudno! I'm writing a public message to do so and I cannot do any more.

OK, I suppose I'm hereby giving the racist mob stuff to keep them busy tonight and the whole weekend but never mind, I meant to apologize. While they are on my case, Muslims and other hated minorities shall have a break .....

Well now I'm not that naieve InPolska am I? Was Atch right? She was indeed. What did I say? I said it was a bit too much of a coincidence and probably some eejit playing his idea of a practical joke. Let me tell you guys, years of working with children and listening to tale bearing and grievances and trying to get to the truth of the matter, teaches you a lot about human nature. As Maria Montessori said 'the children were my teacher', not the other way round. Anyway, glad it's all sorted out as the suspense was killing more than one of us, definitely Smurf will get a good night's sleep now!
